These are the women who drew their wisdom from their own experiences and found their strength in the collective struggle of their people. -- the women who fought the authoritarian norms of a military jail; the mother who has unselfishly committed herself and her children to the cause of national liberation and women's emancipation; the slumdweller defending her home from the inroads of foreign commercial interests and fighting for her community's right to a humane existence; the elderly laundrywoman who finds strength in her work of organizing other impoverished women; the ordinary woman who has found a way to seek justice for a fellow Filipina and for other victims of trafficking in women like herself. They are women whose individual stories form the thread that weaves the struggles of other women from the toiling social classes and give life to the movement for women's liberation in the Philippines. |
