Day 7 seen us sailing past Amedee Island, which is a small islet surrounded by coral reefs, and
many ships have been shipwrecked on this island.A lighthouse was erected there in 1865,to serve as a guide for seafarers. One
famous shipwreck was the MS Ever Prosperity,a cargo vessel that was onroute from Newcastle Australia(my hometown) to Noumea
to load up a shipment of nickel, but she was swept onto the reef north of the Havannah-Boulari Passage.
Sailing through the Havannah-Boulari Passage was a very beautiful sight to see,and it`s a
very narrow passage to navigate through (the width of the passage is only 1 and a half times the ship`s length,370 metres!!!
),so the ship slowed down while the captain navigated through the passage.
Today was a day spent relaxing after 3 hectic days, and tonight was the last of our theme
nights..."Fright Night"...some of the costumes were spectacular, with a lot of effort into planning costumes and make-up etc.
Day 8 came, and the sun was gone again,so once again,it was mainly spent doing activities
inside the ship, and tonight was our second Formal evening,so we all dragged out the fine clothes, put some lippy on,and dined
the night away.Later that evening, the restaurant had a "Champagne Waterfall",which began at 11pm and ended at approximately
12am. The Maitre`D built the glasses up one by one,and none were ever dropped and broken.Once it was built,he then opened
bottles of champagne and started to fill the glasses.Passengers were invited up to help fill the waterfall, and afterwards, enjoy
a free glass(or two) of the champagne.( I had four glasses!! ).Well, the cruise is nearly at an end,and the "blues" are already
starting to come.
