Near the beginning of the new year, starting in early February, the Topps company began another year-long installment of their exclusive online brand of Garbage Pail Kids cards and product as specialized and limited items, under the tutelage of the Fanatics group. This marks their ninth consecutive year offering a slew of unique online material to the masses, in between their larger retail releases, that tends to cater to a much smaller niche of hardcore collectors. The online and digital releases are overseen by the Topps brand manager (of entertainment ecommerce), Francis Miceli.

Topps released their annual Valentine's Day online set, titled 'Putrid Poetry', sold while supplies lasted, on February 08, 2024, that cost $44.99 per twenty-nine card mini-box (two years running, previously a plastic-case pack without a box). The set is composed of tribute artwork of early OS4 characters, whereas last year's set centered around OS5. Within their set Description section, the Topps Shop stated, "2024 Topps Garbage Pail Kids: Putrid Poetry — Bony O Tony O Wherefore art thou Tony O! I think that’s how it goes. 02. Topps released their 2024 GPK Not-Scars exclusive set online from March 07 through March 14, 2023. The set sold for one week only and cost $19.99 per eleven-card set, or +$160 for 10 sets ($179.99). Within their set 'Description' section, the Topps Shop simply stated: "The GPK NOT-SCARS are back in 2024! 10 Base Stickers plus 1 Parallel per set", "Paralells Include: (1) Film Parallel or Gold Foil /25", the Checklist, and caveat, "All sales are final. Print runs revealed after sales window expires. Art subject to change. Not responsible for typographical/printer errors." The 'Specs' section contained the SKU information, "Product Information: Each set contains (11) 2.5"x3.5" sticker cards - 10 Base Stickers plus 1 Parallel per Set", along with "Product Type: Set, Property: Garbage Pail Kids, Year: 2024, Available From: Mar 7, 2024, Available Until: Mar 14, 2024" information. On Wednesday, March 6, 2024, Topps included a card image of 'OWEN Oppenheimer' within their daily blast email, and simply stated "Coming Soon... 2024 Topps GPK: Not-scars". The film parody set dropped on March 7, 2024, where the Topps website showcased a set header (pictured above), and could be seen within the daily blast email, and in the afternoon Topps posted to their Facebook social media page and promoted the set by stating "She's had Kenough!
Collect 2024 Garbage Pail Kids Not-Scars! Available NOW at [Topps.com]." Per internet search on the coined 'Kenough' phrase, "At the end of Barbie, Ken (Ryan Gosling) wears a tie-dye hoodie that says, “I am Kenough”—meshing his forename with the word “enough.” This comes after Ken realizes that he is more than just an accessory to Barbie (Margot Robbie) and has a personality of his own." The 2023 Not-scars release only contained the red film strip parallel, and not the gold foil parallel. Per Facebook, on release day, artist JOE Simko stated "GPK Oscars card set. Now available at Topps. My original 'Killin' CILLIAN' [Murphy] name choice did not get approved.", understandably.



Per ToppsRIPPED article published on March 7, 2024, titled 'Kids Trash the 2024 Oscars' and 'The Oscars are Garbage'. Since 2016, the Garbage Pail Kids have been letting the air out of all the pomp and circumstance of The Academy Awards. Hollywood’s biggest night is the perfect combination of celebrity exposure and big cultural event that is tailored-made for GPK parodying. During the past seven years, A-listers from Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Lady Gaga, to Tom Cruise have received the Garbage Pail treatment. This year is no different. For the next week, the Garbage Pail Kids: Not-Scars 2024 will be available [...] until 3/14, featuring send-ups of Oscar-hopefuls Barbie, Oppenheimer, Maestro, The Holdovers, and Killers of the Flower Moon. Let’s take a closer look at this year’s GPK Not-Scars set.

OWEN OPPENHEIMER: At this point in the award season, the coronation of Oppenheimer, director Christopher Nolan, star Cillian Murphy, and costars Emily Blunt and Robert Downey Jr. feels almost like a fait accompli. Thankfully, we have GPK here to stir the pot of what will be a long, drawn out ceremony. The Oscars are garbage.
MALIGNED MARGOT: All jokes aside, Greta Gerwig was definitely snubbed when the Oscars committee failed to nominate her for Best Director. But Barbie still raked in the nominations for Best Supporting Actor and Actress, and Best Original Song, among others. Don’t worry, Greta, in our hearts, you’ll always be Ken-enough.
LOOGIE LENNY: Bradley Cooper’s prosthetic tour de force, Maestro, earned seven Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Actor. Cooper went full method-actor by wearing a prosthetic nose in an attempt to look more like the biopic’s subject, Leonard Bernstein. We’re not so sure it was necessary, but it makes for a great boogie bit on this LOOGIE LENNY card.
WALLEYED PAUL: Everybody’s favorite rumpled everyman, Paul Giamatti, continues to impress as the rightful heir to Karl Malden. Sure, we all love Giamatti in quasi-arthouse fare when he teams up with The Holdovers director Alexander Payne. But would it kill Giamatti to bring back Mr. X in a sequel to The Nanny Diaries?
B.O. LEO: Killers of the Flower Moon rolls into the Oscars with 10 total nominations. In addition to nominations for cinema royalty Robert De Niro and Martin Scorcese, Killers also saw Lily Gladstone (Best Actress) and Scott George (Best Original Song) receive the first two Academy Award nominations for Native Americans. This is all well and good, but has anyone gotten to the bottom of whether or not the Pioneer Woman’s family really owns all the Osage land?

An overall price increase over the last release, due to an increase in pack number, etcetera.

Topps sent out an email blast on 03/25/2024 containing an image of the box and three singles stating "Coming Tomorrow...", and dropped the above banner ad to a second email blast on 03/26/2024 and to the front page of their website; which was up for less than half a day since the product has sold out. Topps also took to their GPK social media channels to post some card images and state, "THIS IS ART [emoji]. 2023 Topps GPK x MLB Series 3 has arrived. Available NOW, exclusively at Topps.com. (Art by beloved GPK artist David Gross )", however, their official Topps social media pages had connecting card images as seen below. NOTE: The ten-pack case sold out in 30 minutes; the three-pack box sold out in 5 hours. The 3rd Series release had a much higher production and no artist proofs (only the 1st Series). The set now has two less parallel inserts from the past release, but 10 extra characters, from 15 to 25; a few chase inserts were also dropped, like 'no names'.




On March 25, 2024, artist DAVID Gross took to social media to post about his new project, announcing "New GPK X MLB set comes out tomorrow at Topps.com! I painted all 26 players in the set featuring modern, rookie and retired stars!", a follow-up post on March 26, 2024, stating "New Topps Bryce Harper Garbage Pail Kids X MLB card I painted for the set that dropped today at Topps.com. 25 modern, rookie and HOF players in the set!" (picturing Bell Ringer BRYCE), and posted an unused concept to Facebook, dated 06/24/2023, with Albert Pujols. Gross continued to post card images for several weeks after the release posting.

4—9. Topps took to Facebook on May 15, 2024, to announce their new, six-week release stating, "GPK GAME OVER. DROPS 5/16. EXCLUSIVELY AT TOPPS.COM", and also had the advertisement sheet image added to their email blast on that same day. On May 16, 2024, Topps send out their daily email blast which also included a banner image (that has not been posted to their website, as of yet), the 'pack' and several card images, and information on the set which stated, "Gamer Pail Kids is finally here. Your favorite kids are taking over with GAME OVER! Look for some of your favorite, and least favorite, video game characters come to life in classic Garbage Pail Kids style. A new set will launch every Thursday for the next 6 weeks, exclusively on Topps.com". A second email blast that included the GAME OVER releases was sent out on May 24, 2024, that advertised Level 2 for week #2.



Topps released several GPK GAME OVER, Week/Level #1 through Week/Level #6, online for six weeks. Each set sold for one week only and cost $19.99 per eleven-card set or +$160 for 10 sets ($179.99; $18.00/Set). The sets are a spin-off from the 'GAME OVER!' 24-card subset from the Kids at Play retail/hobby set that was released earlier in the year. Gross mentioned on social media that Engstrom's artwork would show up in the first three releases and his work would be found in the last three releases. Engstrom mentioned through conversation that the 'Popeye' concept was rejected and the 'Jason' concept was the replacement. Gross had a tie-in promo card set [GO!P1a + GO!P1b] printed for the PNS show the weekend of May 18 + 19 and stated on social media, "Garbage Pail Kids cards for Game Over (Bonus Level) I'll have available at the 80th Philly Non-Sports Card Show this Saturday and Sunday AND available after the show for any that are left." 10. Topps released their inaugural Dressed To Grotesque (2024) online set, sold while supplies lasted, on August 28, 2024, that cost $99.99 per 5-pack, 40-card mini box. The set is a parody of the Met Gala—that took place on May 6, 2024, at The Metropolitan Museum of Art—and composed of tribute artwork of early Original Series characters and celebrities that have worn eye-brow raising ensembles at previous events. Artists submitted concepts to Topps in late April and final artwork was presented in late May for the set. The title is poking fun at the popular idiom, 'Dressed to Impress', which usually means to choose clothing to make a positive impression on others, dressing for success, but in the fashion world, it's more akin to choosing prêt-à-porter attire and making a shocking impact on others.

Within their page write-up section, the Topps Shop stated, "Sweat stains are in. Matching is out. Wrinkles are slimming and smelly socks get clout. The Garbage Pail Kids are taking you to school with their latest fashion style for the first semester. Hurry up and collect their newest looks before the bell rings! On August 26, 2024, Topps took to their Facebook social-media channel and sent out a blast email that stated, "Coming Soon... 2024 Garbage Pail Kids Dressed to Grotesque. Sweat stains are in. Matching is out. The Garbage Pail Kids are taking you to school with their latest fashion style for the first semester." Per GPK News, besides the regular online artists of Engstrom, Simko, [Gross], McWilliams, Camera, Meeks & Arena, there are three new artists, Mike Stephens, Dave Dabila, and Jeff Dionise. Each 'regular' or main artist completed three OS characters plus one celebrity, however, Engstrom took on the four pieces for Gross, who could not partake in the project due to another deadline at the time (MLB x GPK). Artist Chris Meeks posted on August 28, 2024, stating, "Why so serious, 90s. My painting for Topps' 2024 Garbage Pail Kids: Dressed to Grotesque set which is now available (correction: SOLD OUT!)! Original art 6 x 8". Artist Brent Engstrom posted the same day, with Jared Leto parody image, stating, "New Dressed to Grotesque GPK set for sale on the Topps site only." Artist Mike Stephens also posted, explaining, "I contributed some base cards to the newest GPK release (already sold out), and here's one of my paintings! My first draft was rejected because she needed to be gender neutral, plus my AD (my wife) said that little skeleton feet were much cuter. She was right!" + "For the latest set of Garbage Pail Kids, you’ll find two final base cards that I painted! I can now get hit by a bus and die happy."; additionally, his suggested gag nomenclature was used for the C-name cards.



Artist Neil Camera mentioned, "A few of the new Topps GPK 'Dressed to Grotesque' pieces I painted for the series. I also did a wrapper design, which I'll keep a surprise! Now available at Topp.com for a limited time." On August 29, 2024, artist Simone Arena simply stated, "Three of my paintings in the new GPK set released this week." The Facebook group GPK Marketplace/Rob White posted artist Dave Dabila's artwork piece on his behalf, since he's not on FB, stating, ""Our GPK sketch artist Dave Dabila got to have his first card/painting added in the new series 'Dressed to Grotesque'. He is super pumped as he has been on sketches since 2015!" On August 30, 2024, artist Smokin' JOE McWilliams took to social media to showcase his contribution, stating, "GPK Dressed to Grotesque set just blew out the door! Here's a peek at the characters I painted for the set... all gussied up! Enjoy!"

On September 24, 2024, artist DAVID Gross took to Facebook to pre-announce the annual online horror sets with a 'blood' dripping sign image that read, "oct 3" (red) "is horror-ible" (black) and later added "6 weeks of terror awaits" (black). Topps took to Facebook on October 01, 2024, to announce their new, six-week release, stating, "SPOOKY SEASON IS COMING. GPK OH THE HORRIBLE. WAVE 1. 10/3", with artwork by BRENT Engstrom, and also had the advertisement sheet image added to their blast email on that same day (and consecutive days after), where the body of the email read, "Coming Soon... 2024 Topps Garbage Pail Kids Oh The Horrible" and "Topps and Garbage Pail Kids Oh the Horrible themed 10-card sets: Oh the horrible! Just in time for Halloween, Garbage Pail Kids return in truly horrifying style. Collect all five exclusive horror movie themed characters. Look For: • 11 Cards Per Pack • (10) Base Cards • (1) Black and White Wrapper or Gold Foil Wrapper /25 Per Set" Historically speaking, the retail sets have always been titled 'Oh, the Horror-ible!', but for some reason didn't translate over to the online releases.

On October 03, 2024, Topps sent out a second email blast with an updated advert, that stated, "Now Live! 2024 GPK Oh the Horrible Wave 1. Topps and Garbage Pail Kids Oh the Horrible themed 10-card sets: Oh the horrible! Just in time for Halloween, Garbage Pail Kids return in truly horrifying style. Collect all five exclusive horror movie themed characters. Look For: 11 Cards Per Pack • (10) Base Cards • (1) Black and White Wrapper or Gold Foil Wrapper /25 Per Set." This same advert and message would appear in the next day's email blast as well on October 04, 2024. The subsequent releases would have the same message, only the wave number changing.

On October 09, 2024, GPK News posted the Oh, the Horror-ible Wave 2 ad, with the corrected GPK title. The pack image, with card 6a, along with cards 7a-10a, were published to the Wave 2 online posting on October 10, 2024, but the card 6a image was posted to the Topps Garbage Pail Kids page, where they stated, "It only gets worse from here.
WAVE 2 OUT NOW[!]" An email blast for both the GPK and Halloween Wacky Packages dropped the same day, "Now Live! 2024 GPK Oh the Horrible Wave 2", etcetera.

On October 15, 2024, GPK News posted the Oh, the Horror-ible Wave 3 ad to their social channels. The set was released online on October 17, 2024. NOTE: The nomenclature for card #12 had the image for the Poltergeist movie, and vice versa, the nomenclature for card #15 had the character image for the Chucky movie. Due to the NYCC, the GPK blast email did not circulate until October 18, 2024, Friday morning, showing the new Wave 3 ad, which also contained a link to the GPK Rock & Roll Hall of Lame set, "Now Live! 2024 GPK Oh the Horrible Wave 3", etcetera.





On October 22, 2024, GPK News posted the Oh, the Horror-ible Wave 4 ad to their social channels. The set was released online on October 24, 2024. The GPK blast email was sent out on October 25, 2024, with the same information as the previous three releases, "Now Live! 2024 GPK Oh the Horrible Wave 4", etcetera. Artist DAVID Gross took to Facebook to further promote the set, stating, "New 2024 Garbage Pail Kids Oh, the Horror-ible set Week 4 out NOW! 6 weeks of spooky horror classics coming your way with 30 new characters making up 60 A/B cards along with B&W wrapper cards and gold foil parallels. I did all the art for this week and for the next two weeks."



On October 30, 2024, GPK News posted the Oh, the Horror-ible Wave 5 sneak peek ad to their social channels. The set was released online on October 31, 2024. A GPK blast email was not sent out for this particular set and no mini banner link was created for the last four mini set releases for the Topps home page.




GPK News did not post an Oh, the Horror-ible Wave 6 ad to their social channels. The set was released online on November 7, 2024. The GPK blast email was sent out on November 8, 2024, with the same information as the previous three releases, "Now Live! 2024 GPK Oh the Horrible Wave 6", etcetera, with a subject line of, "Don't Miss: Final wave of 2024 Topps GPK: Oh the Horrible!", with a very lackluster advert. NOTE*: Card 28a LIVVY Dead was the original 'pack' image online, whose card image had an additional 'PEEL HERE' arrow in the bottom left-hand corner for some reason, but changed to card 30a ARMIE of Darkness, the very same day, after the nomenclature's spelling was corrected from 'ARMIE or Darkness' on card and within the online checklist.

13. Topps released their annual Garbage Pail Kids: Rock and Roll Hall of Lame set online three weeks earlier, compared to last year. The set sold for one week only, from October 16 to October 23, and cost $19.99 per eleven-card set or +$160 for 10 sets ($179.99). The artwork was created by the four main GPK artists: Engstrom, Simko, Gross and McWilliams + NEIL Camera. NOTE: In the past, the set was also called the 'Rock & Roll Hall of Shame'. NOTE: Per SKUs, starting with the 2023 OTH releases, instead of being printed on sticker (-STIC-) stock, as previous SKUs showcased, the cards are now printed on two-sided 24pt cardstock, as indicated by the updated SKU section (-24C2S).

Per Hall of Fame website press release, "New York, NY – April 21, 2024 – The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation announced tonight the 2024 Inductees for music's highest honor in the following categories: Performer Category — Mary J. Blige, Cher, Dave Matthews Band, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & The Gang, Ozzy Osbourne & A Tribe Called Quest. Musical Influence Award — Alexis Korner, John Mayall & Big Mama Thornton. Musical Excellence Award — Jimmy Buffett, MC5, Dionne Warwick & Norman Whitfield."



Following the early online release (9am ET), on October 16, Topps later took to Facebook to post the (further) above set release ad, and stated, "We're going off the rails! AVAILABLE NOW". Artist JOE Simko took to social media to showcase his character, stating, "Painted this Ozzy GPK for the new Rock and Roll Hall of Lame set. Available on the Topps site now." and artist DAVID Gross did the same, stating, "Peter Frampton Garbage Pail Kids card I painted for the Rock N Roll Hall of Lame set out for one week until Oct 23 at Topps.com featuring his I’m In You album." That evening, Topps sent out an email blast containing a new R&R ad, basically showcasing all card images, stating, "Now Live! 2024 Topps Garbage Pail Kids Rock N Roll Hall of Lame. This year, the Garbage Pail Kids are inducting some of their favorite artists into the Rock and Roll Hall of Lame. This rockin’ set, which features a new set-specific parallel, is exclusive to Topps.com.
