and speakers.  (A mic and speakers can be replaced by a handset or headset)..

133mhz processor or higher.

28.8 modem
WIN95 or WIN98 with winsock 2.0 or higher or Windows 2000.
Sound Card (full duplex recommended)

*Internet Explorer 4.x or higher -> Required for Video Support

Q. Why doesn't Paltalk work with my Macintosh/WebTV?
A. Paltalk does not support Macintosh or WebTV as yet.

Q. When I complete the final dialogue box, during registration, Paltalk freezes.
A. Try this test out:
Start up a DOS window and at the prompt type "telnet 209.67.17.227 5002".
When you press the Enter key a window should come up that says "Hello".
If this does not happen, then you will probably not be able to connect from the computer
and location you are currently dialing from.

If, however, you did receive the 'Hello' in the box, then what you need to do is download
a special program by clicking on this link. Save this program to your desktop and run it.
It is called 'regfixer.exe'. It is a tiny DOS console application which should pop up a DOS
window very briefly and then disappear. Then try the registration or logon once again.
This has been known to fix many connections. Please write to support@paltalk.com and
let us know if this helped you or not.

Note: If you are an America Online or Compuserve user and you are getting
this message, or if you cannot hear the person you are talking to (or vice
versa) your best bet would be to switch to a free ISP such as Alta Vista
NetZero, FreeI.net or any other of the range of free providers out there.
Your Paltalk woes should end there.

Q. Help I forgot my Password!
A. Click on this link to get to our password reminder area. Enter your PalTalk nickname and the e-mail address associated with it. Your password will be sent to the specified address.

Q. How do I add a Pal to my List?
A. Click on PalTalk's ADD PAL button on your buddy list and a search window will appear. You can search for your pal by First name, Last name, nickname or by e-mail address. Keep in mind your pal may not have entered an actual first or last name.

SEND SELECTED button.

A. Press the GROUPS button on the buddy list.  Press the CREATE button on the bottom of the group list window.  A window will pop up and offer various room creation options.

Entry to this group is by invitation only.   Once in the group,  press the INVITE button on the bottom of the group window.  Select a name and press the INVITE button on the selector window.  You must do this for each person that you wish to join the group. Any participant in the group may also invite their friends.

Rooms may also be auto-monitored for foul language in text no matter what type of room you create.   If you want an adult or R rated room this feature is disabled.

Rooms may be "password locked" if you desire.  This allows you to create a public room where your friends can find you, but restrict access to casual visitors.

Room ratings are very important.  Be sure you pick the correct rating for the theme of your room.

G          General audience     Foul language or sexual content is strictly forbidden in text or speech. General rated room are auto-monitored by the server and actual humans. These rooms should be used by people under the age of 18 or those who are easily offended or don't care for "risqué" behavior.

A          Adult content              This room is NOT monitored for foul language OR sexual content. If you are easily offended please do not enter into adult rooms. Adult rooms are "anything goes".  You must be over the age of 21 to enter.

Select the type of group you would like to create and enter a room name. If selecting a text only room, select the category that you would like it to be listed under.

Press the CREATE button when you are ready to open the room.

If you are currently in a group,  you will automatically be transferred to your NEW self-created group. Your group will now be listed under your selected category on the group list.

Q. Can I kick someone out of a room of my own creation?

and only they can get in?
A. Yes.  When you create a room just select the option to password protect the room and enter your desired password.

Q. Why can't I control my own public room!?
That's not fair!  If I make it, it's mine!
A. If you would like a permanent room that you and two friends will take responsibility for, you may send your request to support@paltalk.com.  You will be assigned administrative capabilities when you agree to certain terms and limitations.  This process may be web enabled shortly allowing instant room creation.

PalTalk is a public meeting place.  Everyone deserves the right to exchange ideas.  If a user becomes disruptive in a group contact a (palhelp) or (palsupport) person.  We will quietly ask the person to either stop the disruptive activity, or leave the group.  Other options are available if the person persists.

A. PalTalk does not remember window positions at this time.

Q. Where is everyone?
A. Press the GROUPS button on your buddy list. Rooms with microphone icons displayed are the voice groups.

Q. Does this work on Windows 2000?
A. YES!  PalTalk now supports all 32 bit compatible Windows operating systems

Q. Does Paltalk work with XP?
A. Paltalk works just fine on Windows-XP. The only issue that may be of concern is the built in firewall. Some users need to disable it to allow paltalk to communicate over the internet. To do this follow these steps. Go to 'my network places'. Select 'view network connections'. > Right click on the icon for your internet connection. Select 'properties'. Click on the 'advanced' tab. Uncheck the box that enables the firewall. More information on port requirements, check the support area for our page about Firewall/Network Support.
