Mix together:
2 oz. each, Jojoba, Olive & Walnut oil
1/2 oz. Rosemary oil
If Walnut oil isn't available, increase Jojoba & Olive oils by 1 oz. Store in closed container.
When ready to use:
Brush hair to remove all loose strands. Wet hair in hot water (not TOO hot), so oil will be easier to remove later. And
try an herbal rinse before you oil.
Oil treatment should be heated slightly & applied to the scalp section by section. Technically, you're not supposed to
apply the oil to your whole head, just the scalp. It drips down through the rest of your hair on its own. If you would
like, run a comb, gently, through your hair once or twice.
After oiling, wind up pieces of your hair & secure them in curlers or linen strips.
Wet a thin linen towel in hot herbal water or hot water if herbal is not available to you at the time.
Wrap your head just like you would after you get out of the shower. Now wrap a pice of plastic around the towel, or
fit a shower cap over it (you get the idea) & leave for atleast 30 minutes or up to 4 hours.
Finally, remove all wrappings and rinse hair out in hot water. Shampoo (preferably with castile shampoo recipe, this
time add the juice of a lemon to it). Rinse again carefully and let hair dry naturally. Hair may feel a little bit oily still,
but will lessen the next time you shampoo.
Only use treatment once every 2 weeks, no more.
The finest combination of conditioning oils is an equal mixture of Jojoba, Rosemary & Basil oils.
Use one or 2 drops at a time. Pour into hand, rub on brush (or comb) and brush hair.
1/4 oz. Irish Moss
1 qt. water OR an herbal infusion (Rosemary water is good, as is Lemongrass water.
8 drops essential oil (optional)
2 TBsp. isopropyl alcohol (optional) you may also use Bay rum.
Boil Irish Moss in the water for 20 minutes until thickened. Strain through a coarse strainer to a wode mouthed glass jar. Add essential oils if using them dissolved in the alcohol, if using that. Mix around a bit. To use: Simply dip your comb into it, comb through hair, & rollup your hair as usual.
Strengthens the hair & stimulates the scalp. It can be used as a rinse or brushed through the hair between washes.
1 cup each of Bay leaves & Box leaves (If you can, use fresh leaves. If you can't find Box leaves, you may substitute
with Yarrow or Fennel)
2 Ltrs (3 1/2 pints) water
3 fl.oz. Apple cider vinegar
Add leaves to a pan. Add water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes. Leave to cool. Strain liquid. Discard leaves. Pour in cider vinegar, bottle, shake well each time before using.
Good nutrition & exercise are essential to healthy hair as well as herbal treatments and rinses and such. Vitamins A, B6 & E & biotin are some nutrients the hair needs in order to stay in good shape. Different herbs can also supply the nutrients for healthy hair. Nettles contain absorbable iron; silica in Horsetail; calcium in Oatstraw; Vit.A in strawberry leaves & Lemongrass.
2 oz. each of Nettles, Lemongrass & Violet flowers(or Strawberry leaves)
1 oz. each of Kelp or Dulse, Beet tops, Alfalfa & Lemon peel
1/2 oz. each of Hibiscus flowers, Chamomile, Oatstraw, Horsetail & Mint.
Mix together & bottle in a dry, light-proof container. Use 1 tsp herbs to 1 cup boiling water. Steep & strain. Honey can be added if you'd like. Tea should be taken regularly for best reults. 1 cup every other day for 3 weeks, then cut down to 3 times a week.
