West Memphis-Riviera debuted in West Memphis, AR on August 17 before a ruckus crowd. As wresting fans know, Memphis
has been a wrestling hotbed for decades. “The Memphis
fans didn’t know what hit them when I hit the ring,” said Riviera. The fans definitely didn’t. In
the semi-main event, the fans were expecting to see Derrick King square off against Memphis
legend “Superstar” Bill Dundee. However, Dundee did not make the
card and the promoters immediately moved Riviera into his
spot after seeing him in the first match of the evening defeating Frank Thornton. Managed
by Honest John, Riviera took the mic before taking the ring. “There’s a new face in Memphis Wrestling, and his name is Matt Riviera,”
said Riviera before locking up with King. The match itself was hard fought with the two grapplers being counted out, but I’m sure this isn’t
the last we will here of the “new” Elvis in Memphis Wrestling, Matt Riviera.
