while doing a 'director 's cut' (what bullshit, just putting in sound & a lil editing change to fit the sound) of my short animation cocky ducky, i ended up searching for the 'add comments' script for blogger. yesh, finally found one & after messing ard with it sometime, managed to get it right. been werking like hell for my demoreel las week till now. the shorts i did in my work, i do not ve the sound (anyway, it s done crappily by some overseas postrpo house, not worth using also) & thus taking much time. but i m taking out my iron resolve (ahaha ... very funny!) ... got to do it right manzzz!

my aunt gave my mum 2 luo han fish (罗汉鱼). they live in the same tank but need to be separated by a plastic sheet, coz they ll fight to death if not, now they can only fight with the plastic sheet instead. i had bad impression over their characterisitcs when the 1st wan arrived. it got this stuckup look & charged (stoopidly & repetitively) to the glass when someone nears the tank. i dislike it so much that i try to irritate it with 2 fingers placed apart on the tank glass. this drives it nuts, not knowing which one to attack. the fun doubles when i can keep shifting position! & tat stoopid fish neber gets tired charging at my fingers, yet neber gets clever enuff to realise it cant get pass the glass wall.

but the worst thing i dun like abt it is its carnivorous nature. it feeds on small frogs, prawns & goldfish. 1st time we put 2 lil poor goldfish in its tank, the poor things stayed 1 corner all the while, waiting to be eaten. it jus dun feel good for me to create such an environment in my home (yes, that s the way nature is, big eat small, but tat i can help i need not create such a scenerio in my home). 1 thing i get to noe, with a lil regret, it dun like ppl to look at it when it feeds. so when i get excited to see for the 1st time a big fish eat a small fish on our new reality tv box (yeah a fish tank), & rushed over to watch (& yes, having say all those jus now, me got excited to see it chase the 2 poor goldfish afterall haaha!), it let goes of the goldfish it had bitten repeatedly to half death from its mouth.

for that whole day, the half-dead-not-alive goldfish was spinning all over ard the tank helplessly, fins all damaged. i think it did die finally, long b4 being eaten over the nite when we were asleep. but gosh, what a horrible death. so much suffering, i secretly wish the luo han fish d jus went bck & finished it in a gulp after that.

but then, maybe it s my fault afterall. if i didnt get all excited & rush over in hope to watch some 'reality survival show' in our very own fishtank at home? wat issit in me tat likes to see such things, at a safe distance, happening in the fishtank or a tv set? but all this while i m making lil feel good fantanstical animation story, which i neber trully believe ll happen in reality?

saw this book on bluesky studio at basheer, the art of bluesky, $49.90. covers mainly ice age, but also include bunny, aliens & some other TVC they did earlier. good book i tink though the cover dun look too good. read in it that the fur in iceage s done by cards mapped with fur texture, covering all over the characters body. i jus noe it s some cheat method they used when i saw the fur, not like those in monster inc, but din expect they go into such basic methods & get good look.

Hmm. don't understand why all those folks are getting into so much trouble to get into trouble. Anyway, checked out imdb.com on a beautiful mind. Ron Howard directed a whole load of other movies ie Apollo 13, How the Grinch stole Christmas, Cocoon, backdraft, just to name a few. jus read abt miramax fighting the oscar war with dreamworks. these business ppl can jus do all kinds of things. in order to bring down the film a beautiful mind, they digged out & spread news of john nash being actaully bisexual & got a illegitimate son, tat the movie omitted it. now the jury is taking these into the oscar considerations too. which is somthing i do not understand. if i m the screenwriter/director, i d ve done the same. the story got to ve a main direction, a main character tat leads the audience on, in this case it s not an avant garde movie, it needs a positive character to do so.

sequel to the rebellious alphabets keyboard saga. finally buy a cheap, silent & healthy (as written on the box) keyboard. the keys are made slanting towards the center so tat mt hands ll not be forced into an unnatural position, as like when i m typing on normal keyboards. how thoughtful, like this oso can think of! this reminds me of the story of our QWERTY keyboard, that i only know recently reading paulo coelho 's veronica decides to die. the alphabet keys on our keyboards are arranged tat way so tat we ll type slower, rather than faster as we would ve believe it to be. it s coz the typewriter las time cant react as fast as the human hands can type, so such a layout has to be adopted to slow the typing down. but everybody gets so used to it now that no manufacturer would dare change the layout, even we r typing on computers nowsday. well, in the book, this story is used to bring out how we dun question why things are tat way & jus take it as correct.
but for my case, my typing is like playing those 'hit-the-thing-that-pops-out-of-the-holes' games, except it s my 2 fingers instead of a big rubber hammer. so the layout dun matter to me! i m sure there mus be many out there who are like me ... hey! they should try making a keyboard that follow the alpahbetical order to revolutionalise the keyboard market! since i do not ve the old habit with me, i m more ready to evolute ahaha!

things tat i used everyday ll not feel important to me ... unless they BROKE DOWN!!!!
my old, dirty & insignificant keyboard finally did it. all this while, alphabet 'e', 't', 'c' & 'b' has been showing altitude problems by refusing to work according to their whims & fancy. the harder i hit them in retaliation, the more stubborn they became. but being a kind & loving master, i jus dont bear to eliminate the whole keyboard coz of a few black sheeps. yesterdae, they jus refused to function when i planned to stay home & type an updated resume. i tried all means hoping they might change their minds but they onli chosed to do so at nite, after wasting my whole afternoon.
so, tat s the last draw. the rest of the 22 innocent alphabets ve to be sacrificed for 4 troublemakers!!! for the sake of the integrity of the whole computer system, this cant be helped.
i m gonna get my new keyboard later at lunchtime.

Er...Hi PL H, ehehee.. I must recommend the author Sharon Shinn to start you off the path of Fantasy reading. Read the Archangel trilogy, book 1 being none other than Archangel. For lack of a better word, it's just spell-binding. Don't think any amount of my rantings can do her works justice. :)

And then after that, perhaps, JUST perhaps, you can start on JRRT. or have you already? :)

about books...

while i'm on the bus or just taking a break, i try to read lady cottington's pressed fairy book. very interesting journal writing by angela cottington, the little girl who was photographed with fairies that had the world come close to believing in the very existence of fairies finally. it's a little book that's prettily illustrated with nice calligraphy within. i have not been able to read more than 2 pages before someone approaches to ask me what it is i'm reading. it borders on the whimsical and not on the intellectual... just an interesting book to share. :) it's quaint little books like these that make it such a treasure to have.

temptation from books come again, this time by 2 books human in motion & animals in motion. they show high speed archival photographic sequences of animals and man in motion, taken by this photographer whose name i cant remeber offhand now. very good references for animation. i noe of those books long b4, then now saw them in basheer few days ago. but alas, i only bought the cheaper version of animals in motion, tat s softcover with part of the hard cover contents.
been modelling, rigging, texturing, motion testing ... etc, yet not animating for quite sometime ... hope i get over this phrase faster ... what a mental struggle of frustation & will power.

So you know I'm bored. yesh.
and I'm kinda pissed off. Yesh. Regarding? That instead of boycotting taiwan ex-politician-reeking-with-piss-and-rotting-orifice-VD-infested-whore, better know as just Asian Porn VCD's reigning queen, Chu Mei Feng, Singaporeans are flocking right into the very money making net woven by none other but herself.
Hell, I watched the infamous vcd, and I swear it felt almost like a Japanes Urban movie. Victim of hidden camera my Ass! What I saw was painstakingly "choreographed" and shot PORN. Ok so chu mei feng's got a wobbly cellulite butt, and the guy's pitiable manhood would have done better hidden from view. This is no afternoon quickie. This is the standard Formula Porn. They were Actors, not the unconvincing lovers whose got more than their bottoms exposed. *shudder*. So she said she's the hapless victim of this ploy, and now she's gotten over her emotional lacerations already? She's pulled herself together to even put on a SHOW? What's worst than the fact that this show is a sell-out? I question the morality of this society. It appalls me that an unscrupulous woman blatantly lied and people listened. The goverment of singapore has done nothing watsoever to ban her concert, an action that seemingly turns a blind eye on her sexual proclivities, much to my chagrin.

I'm bumming right now, taking my time in looking for a job, and being hounded upon by my dad to study abroad (sometimes methinks he probably can't wait to send me off!) hehehe. BUT, the biggie prob is I have no friggin clue what it is I wanna pursue. Not that I grew outta animation and all that, but I thought I really wanna go into Classical Studies (like latin Literature and stuffs), but I figure there's no way my dad will agree to that!
Hmmm.....guess i'll put all thoughts about further studies aside first....and SERIOUSLY consider living a Koh Phi Phi for like 6 months....hahaha

yesterdae finished the 2 discs of A.I. dvd i jus bought. disc 2 doesnt ve anything of particular interest that i dont already know, a bit disappointing. i expect them to release more bckgrd werk, esp those by stanley kubrick over the 10 yrs. they keep saying how long this film was in planning, with hundreds of artwork done on it, yet din wan to show much. dun tell mi got copyright issue cant release. i was hoping to see more of chris baker 's comic storyboard. but since the film i like so it s still worth buying.

Hi Grace, I'm now deciding between a BA for Film or computer animation. I've done some homework myself and found out that some schools are willing to take my diploma ( Interactive media design ) as an equivalent of a BA ( or at least, waive some foundation classes ) so any suitable MA courses could be considered too. I'm considering AAC as well, but the tuition fees are really expensive. Would you have any other schools to recommend ?

all of sudden 3 days continuously watch 3 movies: in the bedroom, then a beautiful mind, then jimmy neutron, all oscar nominees. & i really like a beautiful mind. i was surprised oso tat russell crowe can act so well, coz i really not impressed his las win as best actor for gladiator fighting most of the time with man & tigers :P i hope it ll get best screenplay too. the way it s written, the audience is drawn into john nash 's sczri******** (i cant spell the word for split personality) condition. it s presented so convincingly tat even the audience at some pt believes his imagination to be real. how hard mus it be for him to fight those 'realities' with logic reasoning & sheer will power.
i try flipping thro the book but it wasnt those easy book to read, too bad. but i jus wan to find out if those hallucination r exactly wat he had in real life. did this great mathematician really imagine himself to be some undercover code breaker werking in secret service? he had such exciting imagination. but i din find out, book s too thick ahaha!
in the bedroom & jimmy neutron r good show too! esp the economic & effective film & storytelling technique of in the bedroom, & the way the tension is portrayed intricately bet 2 closely related beings. & jimmy neutron is a black horse. maybe my expectation is kinda low b4 seeing, but it s got some good wacky entertainment in the nickelodeon style. i usually find it hard to identify with this kinda humor, quite surprised myself i can enjoy this oso.

yah lor, i experience few times b4 oso. so i always cntrl-C wat s on screen b4 going away, or for long winded msg (as i get older), sometimes hit post &publish half way 1st, then use edit to contd the msg, so at least i got half oready posted if timed out : )
ok lah good good grace, u win lor :P it s improper i used 'factory werker' to describe lah. but wat i mean was that in those big productions, they prefer animators who can play team & follow directors' instructions (& u knowing where my heart lies in, ll know i sure dun feel satisfied doing tat) under the big picture, din mean to say they cant tink or no use of their flair in terms of animation & interpreting characters lor.

ARGH! 1st complain..why Blogger timed out so fast!!?!?!?? I wrote a whole lot of stuf...my fren called talk and when i came back to hit send...All gone...BOoHoo...now gotta type again...lost my thoughts liaos lah...gonna still try...OK here i go...

I wont realli say that animators like fact workers lor...cos like wat John said...he animated Sulli and was given a scene where he had to put Boo to sleep...He had to think abt the emotions to inject into him cos he was basically given the words...put her to sleep...and it was a whole long scene...jus with the blocking...He was the one to play with his physical and emotional actions and reactions....he did a good job with minimal body gestures and great facial there...and there was the last scene that took him 3 1/2 months to complete...cos that was an impt one...well, he had to be the char to be able to animate though ..I would still say the rest of the team really had a good say in the what is gonna happen but it is still the animator who brings them to life by GIVING them life!!...Hee...defending my positiojn here...Hee...cos I char. Animator mah...Hee...

hmmm .. so the animator oso a 'john'? the VO is oso john, john goodman. it s ok lor, i oso dunnoe wat to ask, & i bet they d be miamed abt episode II, so they wont say a thing on it rite? but abt the animators having to werk under the specification of the layout side, i heard of that b4 i tink, if not everyone ll become director & change the story, editing the sequences together ll oso be chaotic if positioning is changed anyhow. tat s y i kinda feel animators in that pipeline has very similiar function as the factory werker in the production line (no intention of degrading them, jus stating as it is, coz it has to be tat way in big productions as such).
i see u bz, still take time to post all this, i m the one paiseh lah : ) pls more of this whenever u ve time, thank u! : )

Hmm...interesting...could I ask where is Miss Grace studying ? I'm considering a place of further studies myself...need more information on schools, etc.

Hi Waiming!! pai seh...so busi and tired past few days...did not get to post up stuff I heard from the talk..Have been home late so...
Oh ya..abt the Pixar Monster Inc. talk..htere aas the production designer...Animation Layout artise, Animator, and effects person...fur lor...
It was interesting...they said so much..well, some things may be pretty common as in production pipeline..but the layout artist talk abt how they consider frame and shots layout...what are the things they think abt...how they composed particular shots..and oso blocking anim...and the animator, John..animated Sullivan...he was talkjing alot with us and he os talked abt how he worked with the Anim Layouot Dept. like how they liaise with each other...and hw he animated the character...the way he approach animation and how llong he spent on certain scene...and oso they were givcen ome but not a lot of freedom when animating..like the blocking and everything done form Layout side..but they get to act the character...like if Kitty were to be sitting there for 15 secs..then he get to think abt how he wanna portray him..ya'know...
Well...last 2 weeks heard 2 more talks ..one from Linda Bell, and one from Victoria Livingstone...both from ILM...worked on Mars Attack, Episode I, II, and a few others..Interesting to hear hteir personal views on certain things..both are animators too....

in the battlefield, man kills man, soldier vs soldier. still fair game, cruel it is.
when man picks on children & the old, when soldier fires at civilians, there s no honour in it.
in the society, it s full of cowardly weaklings who dare only pick on harmless, kind souls. jus to cover up their misdeeds, their cowardice, their own ass.
there really isnt much the weak can do against cowardly bullies as such, really. but since they being cowardly beings in the 1st place, i do think they wont sleep too well most of their nites. i dun think retribution is delivered swiftly in justice all the time. but in my belief there s such thing as karma. somehow they ve got to pay it bck. and sometimes it s sad tat it s at the price of their own loved ones.
there ll always be a thousand excuses to do others wrong, but deep inside i believe one does know if the conscience is truly clear. only then can we sleep well.

nah, it s easy to find, jus walk in the outdoor bar/pub watever, and look out for no 43 on the left side. well, actaulli quite embarrassing, PL was the one who led me in.
