this still image is from the closing shot of my WIP animated short, K I T E. there is some photoshop retouching. i ll be uploading the 3D render. i m still deciding over whether to use this subtle painted look, or stay clean with the 3D render.
*fixed the broken link. i ve recieved more feedbacks from trustworthy & well-meaning frens. there are some good points abt adding more randomness to the bamboos & detailing up the ground. think i ll try to improve on this further before putting the seal. nevertheless, i ll still submit this to cgtalk to recieve more comments hopefully. :: daydreamer 5/29/2003 02:10:00 AM [+]

who else but myself would be my most valid lao peng you, the man i ve been seeing all this life in the mirror ... i m jus a poor lad consoling myself in self pity. sorry sorry if any misunderstanding arises.
not sure what s the reason but my right wrist is having aches from using the mouse too long. it must be my working environment setup at home has some problem. once i work long hours at home, my shoulder or now my wrist suffer.
my short animation is progressing on & off for a long time. i always ve a good sense of urgency at work (maybe things in life also). somehow this time i dont feel i can hurry things up. despite that, the perfectionist is still so often the slave of his own ideals.
just finished jostein gaarder 's the ringmaster daughter a few days back. it is very intriguing & i m impressed by his ability to spin so many small stories within the story. the protaganist in the book reminds me of robert mckee, who is the 'story docter' of hollywood & whose seminar i ve attended in january. the difference is that the book 's character makes a rather unethical living by selling story ideas to writers. while those writers come out with 1 bestseller after another from his ideas, he remains anonymous.
his explanation on why writers have to buy stories from him is interesting but also rather familiar. there are 2 kinds of writers who ll do it. those with marvellous gifts of language & expression, as well as those who want to write so dearly, yet none has anything to write about. all that talent & passion but with nothing to say (reading this now, i remember this is also robert mckee 's opinion on steven spielberg during the seminar : "all that talent but with nothing to say", which i dont feel totally fair to the filmmaker).
unfortunately, i dont quite get what the author is trying to get across with this book. it s a big deviation in style & content from his past books. though i can be sure it must be the problem of my own literary standard. :: daydreamer 5/21/2003 09:27:00 PM [+]

i finally saw the trailer of Turn Left Turn Right on TV just now. the movie, starring jin cheng wu & gigi leung, is based on the bestselling comic of taiwanese illustrator jimmy, which also has a english translated version titled a chance of sunshine.
it s interesting to see that the director du qi feng has transformed some of the memorable illustrations in the book into beautiful shots. the umbrella scene in the trailer is 1 fine example. jimmy 's loose & minimalistic watercolors sometimes let both his characters be lost into a sea of people, & yet still allow readers to 'find' them.
i ve a premonition that the story ll be quite different from the original (cant be helped in adaptation for the big screen). just hope the changes are for better : ) :: daydreamer 5/11/2003 08:44:00 PM [+]

my signage design & evil rei 's prawn chef character design for my sis 's prawn noodle stall will not see the light. but for a good reason. sis & bf are so lucky coz they r gonna take over the chicken rice stall which has got much better business instead. this offer is also value-added with special training under the grand master (shi fu) of chicken rice. this will ensure that his stall will be in good hands when he leaves for Shanghai.
i m glad things are looking up for them. i was kinda concerned when i found that their original stall is in an unattractive position in the foodcourt. that things folded out in this way is truly unexpected. this is the classic case of being in the right place at the right time.
do give Hai Nan Chun chicken rice at Oriental Plaza a try when you are ard Chinatown. even the Wen Tong Ji branch there get their chickens from them, see? :P :: daydreamer 5/02/2003 12:24:00 AM [+]

recent hollywood action blockbusters seem to ve problems with coming up good climax coz they opened the movies so well that it s so hard to top on it. thus, the really thrilling part of X-men 2 would be the beginning nightcrawler assasination & the rundown of X-men school.
nevertheless, it s an entertaining film i like. & much better than the first one. :: daydreamer 5/01/2003 11:47:00 PM [+]
