Che Guevara's Guerrilla Allstars have competed in the last three Balfour Sevens Tournaments. The most recent being held on 14th March, 2004. Balfour is situated in northern Southland, about 1hr15mins north of Invercargill and 1hr 15 mins south of Queenstown.

The team is selected by the founder/coach/captain/manager Glenn Cunninghame and Ariana Ropiha, the assistant manager/fitness coach. This year they been joined on the selection panel by Reg Chamberlain and Matthew Pearce. The players selected come from all over the country and in almost all cases have played rugby alongside the coach for either Waikiwi/Pirates/Alhambra or Prebbleton. The selection criteria includes footballing skill, talent and attitude, drinking ability, the ability to talk shit for hours on end and above all else being a top bloke. Unfortunately the selection panel were unable to come up with any players fitting this criteria so had to resort to the players listed. Only kidding...

The team competes in the Open Grade in the tournament. There is prize money of $1500 for 1st place up for grabs but the chances of the Allstars taking this out are realistically slim. Many of the players have not played rugby in a long time and many are not in peak condition so the emphasis is on enjoying ourselves. That is not to say we are not competitive as the team is made up of many talented individuals.
