Overview:
Farthings of this series have an inner circle on both the obverse and reverse of the coin (except one variant - type 30C) and their obverse legend starts with "EDWARDVS REX" (except a variant with "EDWARDVS RX"). These coins are frequently struck on oval flans.

A pair of "scribe marks" are particularly evident near the king's collar.
If these were simply scribe marks used by the die maker, why are
there two next to each other and why make them as visible as the
lettering?
Both examples, of different grades, clearly show these lines.

Type 31 - Left fleur of crown curves over, as if an annulet.
- This coinage was struck between 1 October 1320 and 4 February 1327. Based on the records published by Crump and Johnson, it is likely that almost 1 million farthings were produced at this time. But, this type is not as common as these minting records suggest and it must be assumed that dies continued to be used from earlier issues (e.g. Withers Type 30).
