  • Awarded the "FORVM Award for Numismatic Excellence". Thank you to all who voted for the site.
  • We will be launching our online coin shop on February 1, 2007. Specializing in English and Irish Hammered coins, it will include some unrecorded rarities - at prices that will appeal to beginners and advanced collectors.

2006 - Summary

  • Added new photo of Edward I "Late Coinage" Dublin farthing.
  • Added new photo of Henry IV "Heavy Coinage" farthing.
  • Added loads of old (and new) auction record information where hammered farthings were sold.
  • Added more references to Auctions and Seaby's Coin and Medal Bulletin - item/lot numbers and descriptions included.
  • Added a photo and listing for a new Edward III, Post-Treaty farthing. It's a variant on published examples, having a Roman N used for both the obverse and reverse legends.
  • The farthing use to illustrate Edward I, Berwick on Tweed class 3a, is actually a class IV. The page has now been corrected. Many thanks to Paul Withers for pointing this out and we look forward to his forthcoming publication on the coins of Berwick on Tweed.
  • Added a photo for the extremely rare Edward I early farthing with the reverse legend: LONDRIENSIS (Withers type 4(i)). There is no photo of this in the North Sylloge.
  • Spent the day going through a complete set of the late, great Patrick Finn's "List of Coins" - remembering what a great loss his passing was. I have added his catalogues to the Bibliography page and some of his observations on rarity to the King John, Edward I, Edward II and Edward III pages.
  • Added "breadcrumbs" to all Layer 2, Layer 3 and Layer 4 pages. This will improve site navigation and improve usability.
  • Updated the Counterfeit page to include an Ashmore copy of an Irish John "Mascle" farthing (moneyer: NORM). An authentic coin can fetch up to £1300 at auction while an Ashmore copy is worth about £3!
  • Updated the Bibliography to include more auction catalogue references.
  • John I farthing page (only Irish farthings were issued by this King) has been extensively added to and in the process a new variety was identified. Also, loads of photos added to the Irish pages. There has been a surge of interest in Irish Hammered Farthings - Thank you and welcome if you are a new visitor.
  • Annual housekeeping completed: fixed broken links and updated copyright information.
  • Wishing you all a very happy new year - I look forward to hearing about your farthing finds in 2006.
  • Added better images for the Henry VI Calais farthing from the Ivan Buck sale: Henry VI Calais Farthings.
  • Henry VIII farthings from the collection were presented by Dr. Richard O'Hair in his paper "Hunt for evidence of Henry VIII farthings in the Early Numismatic Literature" at the Inaugural National Numismatic Conference of the Numismatic Association of Australia (November 2005).
