Nymphenburg Palace

Nymphenburg was Maximillian II's (I think) gift to his wife after she finally successfully conceived a son--
this only after a lengthy pilgrimmage to a nearby abbey.
I can't help wondering if the new prince at all resembled the abbot...
Funny story about that son, Ludwig I (I think) and his mistress, Lola something:
She was a dancer, and demanded an audience with the King to refute the law that women were not allowed to appear on stage in Germany. Somehow or other she got in to see him, whereupon he commented that her breasts were far too large to be real. Whereupon she, seizing a convenient pair of scissors, cut open her dress to reveal her own convenient pair, thus proving their provenence. Ludwig fell instantly in love, much to the consternation of his council, who eventually forced him to banish her. She ended up dancing in California
(around the time of the Gold Rush), and died in NY, of all places--bizarrely, she's buried in Queens.
