Civilian Data (17 January 2001) Jacques F. Arnaud, Jr. was born 2 November 1840 and died 4 February 1910. He was married to Virginia Brown and they had 2 sons and 6 daughters. In addition to the silk trade business of his father's [Jacques Sr.], Jacques Jr was also somewhat of a gambler. Family records show that he returned from one "trip" to Paris (after the war) with $40,000.00 from claiming the family heritage and built a new home for his wife and family. This home was 4 miles east of Arnaudville on the Bayou Portage Road. He lived there till he died. He died on 4 February 1910 is buried in the St. Francis Regis Catholic Church Cemetery, Arnaudville, LA. This information was generously supplied by the Great great great grandson to Jacques, Jr., Dudley J. Primeaux II.

Additional Information: Civilian Data (17 January 2001) Jacques F. Arnaud, Sr., is the father of Jacques F. Jr. and Antoine Arnaud. All three men served with the Confederate States Army in the Civil War. Jacques Sr. survived the war and was murdered after the war in Mexico by some banditos and is buried there. He was a silk trader from France. A recent check of the Confederate Pension Applications at the Archives in Baton Rouge, indicated a Widow's pension on file for an Anna Armand/Arnaud BEERS. This information was supplied by the Great great great grandson Dudley J. Primeaux II.

Civilian Data: (17 August 2000) William G. Butcher was born on 21 February 1842. He was an inkeeper and farmer in civilian life. He was married to Bertha Mouton, a relative of General Alfred Mouton. This marriage produced at least eleven children. William G. Butcher was wounded an captured at Shiloh; but, he survived the war to return home. William G. Butcher passed away on 16 June 1905. He is laid to rest in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Additional Information (6 June 2003): Doucet, Cleobule Doucet briefly served in Co. F., 18th Louisiana Infantry, but was discharged (for unstated reasons) at Camp Roman, Nov. 27th, 1861. He later married the sister of Eraste Guidry, Amelie. A check of the Confederate Pension Records indicate no application of file at the Archives in Baton Rouge for neither Cleobule Doucet nor his wife Amelie. Eraste Guidry wrote to his sisters at home and you can read the translated text of the letters in our "Letters from Home" section. Civilian Data: (Updated on 10 November 2003) Aristide M. (Martin) Gremillion was born in 1841 in Avoyelles Parish. His parents were Martin and Hermentine Bonnette. Aristide married Miss Hermentine Bonnette in 1864. Aristide Martin served four years in the 18th Louisiana in Company F. The marriage of Aristide and Hermentine produce six children: Alice, Irene, Rosney, Annie (Annie Gremillion Smith), Marie and James. After the war, he was engaged in merchandizing and taught school for some time. He was assessor and register of Avoyelles Parish and served one term as mayor. Aristide Martin Gremillion passed away as a result of a stroke in 1925. He is laid to rest at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, in Marksville, Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana. This marriage produced at least 13 children: Clarissa, Cecile, Lessin, Joseph Ozaire, Marie, Theophile, Azena, Arthur, Zoa, Anna, Isidore, Dosite, Marie Olymphe. Alcide by occupation was a cattle driver. Alcide survived the war and passed away in 1932. He is laid to rest at the St. Bernard Church Cemetery in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana. This information was generously supplied by descendant, Larry Culver. There is an application for Confederate Pension Benefits filed under the name of Alcide Guidry at the Archives in Baton Rouge and contains a total of 13 pages of information regarding Alcide Guidry.

Additional Information (6 June 2003): While serving with the 18th Louisiana, Eraste Guidry wrote his sisters, Emilie and Azema at home. The letters were written in French of the time and have been recently translated. Copies of the English translation can be found in our "Letters from Home" section. We are deeply grateful to Mr. Chuck Waite, a descendant of Eraste Guidry and Cleobule Doucet (the great-great-grandfather of Chuck Waite) who served briefly in Co. F. and later married Eraste's sister, Amelie. A check of the Confederate Pension Application Record at the Archives in Baton Rouge, reveal no Confederate Pension Application on behalf of Eraste Guidry.
