Some Late War Confederates

The Louisiana Historical Society Collection at the Library at Tulane University in New Orleans contains a Louisiana Confederate Muster Roll that was never copied by the War Department in Washington, D.C. It is the February-April 1865 muster roll for Company E., Captain Benjamin Storey, Consolidated 18th Louisiana Regiment and Yellow Jacket Battalion. Since the latest muster roll for this company in the National Archives is dated February-March 1864, and consequently in "Records of Louisiana Confederate Soldiers and Commands" which was copied from the National Archives Records, most ofthe soldiers who enlisted in that company after March, 1864, do not appear in those sources. Here, published for the first time, are the records of 18 Confederates who enlisted in Company E late in the war and have, in most cases, not received the recognition they deserve. Only four of the 18 are listed in the National Archives and they are listed only on federal records for having come in and taken a parole at the end of the war.

Apparently the others were never paroled.
