The Story of Falada:

As far as she can remember, Falada came from somewhere north on the continent. She doesn't really know exactly where, though. She has a twin sister, Etain, who is a Starcraft apprentice, and an older brother, Solan, who is married to a stable mistress in Gar. Her parents are alive, but she hasn't seen them for as long as she can remember.

Her reason for joining the Harpers was simple and abiding.  Falada is an artist. Someone gave her a set of colored chalk for Turn's End when she was five, and she's been drawing ever since. At the age of nine, her foster mom sent her to Telgar to study under the weyr artist there for three turns, and then, upon turning sixteen, she came to Ista to apply for apprenticeship, so that she might work as a professionally trained artist.

Journeymen Kurt and Tolia gave her an interview; the whole time, she felt as if they were trying to talk her out of joining, but apparently she convinced them that she truly wanted to, because she emerged from the Harper Office with a new knot.

Now settled into apprentice life, Falada has many new friends with the other girls in the dorm.  And some of the boys, too.  Never having had many while growing up at High Reaches, she's enjoying having many friends, and the joys that come with them, although she does miss a Garish friend, Hikaru, and looks forward to the day when she can once again be reunited with her. The other sour note to mar Falada's time with the Hall is Journeyman Kurt.  None too sure as to what the journeyman thinks of her, Falada finds him rather intimidating.

Falada's dreams of the future are rather practical. She wishes to become a Journeyman, both to be an official artist, and earn her keep, and to hopefully be posted to Gar, and reunite with Hikaru. Traveling doesn't hold too much appeal for this apprentice, but she has a love of children, and feels confident that she could teach them about her passion - art.
