Harper's Tale - Wednesday, June 19, 2002, 4:23 PM
-------------------------------------------------

Harper Office
The office is cheerful, the light reflecting off of whitewashed walls and ceiling. A pattern mimicking musical notation in colors runs along the tops of the walls, shelf upon shelf rising from the floor to meet it. Desks, cabinets and filing drawers are arranged about the room, workplaces for those whose job it is to keep the harpers and hall in order.
The air is fresh, tangy with sea and hides and well-seasoned woods.
Watching from a high shelf are four firelizards.
You see Staff Tackboard, Opree, Project Reference Book, Useful Facts for Harpers, Oldeara, and Face Painting Description here.
Jueann is here.
Obvious exits:
Ballroom

**A couple of poses are missing here*

Jueann blinks, stopped, swirling around, "huh? what?" Almost dropping the scrolls, she does manage to set them down on the desk. "who... ohh Liesana. What are you doing here?" *my last pose*

Liesana glances down at her hands, as if taking a moment to gather her thoughts and form them into words. "I'm here because I've just gotten out of the Infirmary... Kurt and Kedei are still there, recovering from a beating... I'm guessing you'll want a full report?"

Jueann blinks again, leaning against the desk for support. "huh? Are they alright? How did that happen? have the guards been called in?"

Liesana pulls out a chair and motions Jueann towards it. "Please, Master Jueann... I think you'll want to have a seat." Liesana certainly does, crumpling into one opposite the older woman. "They'll be all right, but right now they're... pretty bruised up. The Healers have them there to rest. The Guards are investigating, but they arrived too late to be of much assistance. I... happened to reach the scene in time to intervene, and summonned them as soon as I was able. Er... should I start at the beginning?"

Jueann takes the seat, "Why don't you pour out two drinks from the wine decanter over there and start from the beginning." She sighs, running her hand through her hair. "I'm not cut out for this."

Liesana stands and does as ordered, handing one glass across to Jueann, before sitting again, and taking a fortifying sip from her own. "Right then..." she allows, before once again attempting to give a coherant report. "Well, from my current observations and some prior gossip, it appears that Kurt got into some trouble playing cards with a pair of Bitrans. That's why he's been so jumpy, lately. Now, it seems that he and Kedei went out for a stroll in the Gardens, only to be accosted by these same two Bitrans in an isolated corner..."

Jueann blinks, almost spilling her drink. "huh?" She takes a long drink, "Kurt knows better than that. Does he owe them?"

"No." says Liesana simply. "He took them for all they were worth... and made fools of them in the process. So they went after him in the hopes of gaining their satisfaction. They happened to be using the same corner of the Gardens that I was using to take a walk at about that time..."

Jueann sighs. She's suddenly thankful that she takes walks by the beach instead of the gardens. "I.. I see.... And the guards have a full description of these... these Bitrans?"

Liesana nods. "They should..." she comments, a trifle unsure. "They were able to capture one of them because I..." And here she pauses, brows furrowed with unease. "Master Jueann, I know that Harper prides itself on it's members being non-violent... But I heard the noise of the altercation and snuck up from the trees. They were going to kill Kurt, so I threw a knife and took down the threatening one. The other ran away. I'm sorry... I couldn't think of any other way to help Kurt... Kedei was already unconscious..."

Jueann blinks and pales, "I.. I see...." she starts thinking. "You are posted with the Smiths? Evan is a very good teacher. he offered to teach me but I tend to faint if any one says boo to me." She rambles for a moment, then brings herself up, reaching for a parchment, "I want awritten report from you, Kurt and Kedei, no matter how trivial. I want everything you remember written down. I will have to send Oriana and Caramak a report."

Liesana sips at her wine slowly, nodding a little, and looking a little surprised that her guilty thoughts about what Jueann would do to her for nearly killing the Bitran don't seem to be panning out. "Yes, yes, Evan and his wife have both been seeing that I learn at least a little of the art of the knife," she rambles in reply. "Reports. Yes, I'll have one for you shortly, but I thought that you'd better hear the news from /me/, and not a drudge. Oh... you might want to inform Kurt of that personally... he's being a little chary with the details... Can't blame him, really."

Jueann nods as she finishes her wine. Studying her empty glass for a moment, "He's still in the infirmary?"

Liesana's nod is quick and brief. "Yes." she confirms. "He and Kedei are both in for observation. They... wished to observe /me/, as well, but Jathen came, and talked them into letting me go." Liesana will /not/ be discussing her therapy session unless directly pressed.

Jueann sighs, "I'm not letting all you off lightly, I want those reports very very detailed." She stands up, "You and Kurt know better but I want you to think on the damage you've inflicted on Kedei. She's after all is an apprentice. Think about how you can repair that damage on her."

Liesana blinks. "Me, ma'am?" she inquires, sounding puzzled. "The only thing /I/ had to do with this was taking a stroll in the Gardens at the right time of the day... But you'll have your reports." she does concede. "As for Kedei... I'll keep an eye on him when I can. He's Kurt's mentee, though, so he'll see him more oft than I."

Jueann frowns, "I'm pretty laid back to defending yourself when need be. But do you think Kedei got a good idea on what's being a harper is all about?"

Liesana sighs. "No," she replies. "I'm fairly sure he didn't. But begging you pardon, Master Jueann, Kedei has known me for over a turn and a half... I'm not sure what I can do to undo what has been done, but I'd swear oath on my belief that I've set a good example for him at all other times. I'll talk to him, though. Perhaps discuss when something counts as self-defence? He's a bright kid."

Jueann smiles, "I was hoping you would say that. That shows me you're thinking as a harper. Now then... Kurt... Do you think they'll try again?"

Liesana's brow furrows again, but with thinking, not upset. "Try again... based on my own small experiances with Bitran gamblers, I'd say not. The one that was in charge, of the two, is the one that I... knifed, which shows that Harpers, and especially Harper masters, are not without their defenders. Cardsharps tend to prey on the weak. Still... Kurt would know better than I. It might be wise to have him take a few more precautions with himself. He's been in the infirmary in his two and a half decades more often than most folks are in an lifetime."

Jueann sighs and nods. "I would have thought he's outgrown all this when he made master and married a healer." Shrugging, "Oh Well. I know keeping to the Hold proper isn't really an answer but we can't have Harpers beaten up. I wish Andron was available."

Liesana gives a little grin, a touch of black humour. "Well, if you'll notice, all his worst escapades happen when Aerrin isn't around to keep an eye on him. But I really don't think you need to worry about Harpers in general, Jueann," she offers. "Much as I hate saying it, Kurt really brought this on himself."

Jueann chuckles sofly, "Kurt brings alot of his woes on himself, as you well know." Standing, "Well, if you excuse me, I need to send out these reports and I'm sure you have several reports to write?"

Liesana chuckles in reply. "Very true... which I suppose is why all of his friends keep hanging around... He makes us all needed," she sums up, before standing and abandoning her wine. "Right... I should have my report to you by this evening, or tomorrow morning."

Jueann smiles, "And tell Kedei, I need a report from him and I'll talk to him some time soon."

Liesana nods. "Will do... Although the poor lad had a splitting headache last I saw, so don't expect his writing to be very coherant for a bit. Fare you well, Jueann," And with that, the younger Harper slips out.
You go to the Main Hall and Ballroom.
