Kristiana's Tale:
Born in a small farming hold outside of Ista Hold, Kristiana grew up listening to the ballads and history of Pern told by her mother, a former harper apprentice. She fell in love with singing and song writing, and she even taught at her local school when their harper left unexpectedly.
But the people in her hold didn't understand her. She constantly sang and would compose simple songs about everything she encountered, whereas most girls in her village were the simple, biddable type. They married in their teens and took care of the house as they raised a dozen children. Kristiana realized that she could do more, so she left home in search of the harpers.
Upon reaching Ista, Kristiana's dreams of joining the Harper Craft were further buoyed by chance meetings with four members of the craft. The cheery goodwill and kindness displayed by Lionel, Illata, Tolia and Evanorah allayed any last, lingering doubts the young woman had about her prospective calling, and so she set off to haunt the Main Ballroom of the Hall until she could find someone that could help her to join.
After a slightly nerve-wracking interview by the helpful Journeyman Kurt, she emerged from the Harper Office clutching a shiny new apprentice's knot, and was immediately surrounded by a congratulating, welcoming crowd of harperfolk.
Kristiana's passions for song writing and singing have been magnified since joining the Harpers. The once retiring girl, who, by her own admission would have "blushed and hidden" in response to a request for a song or story is now a confident performer, eager to share her talents with those who will listen. She hopes to travel Pern someday, meeting and learning about people, as she's not overly fond of teaching Hold youngsters.
So that is the story of Kristiana, the farm hold girl who found a larger life.
