Back to Liesana:

Liesana's History:

Born on an early spring day of the 10th Pass's 6th Turn, Liesana was the only child of two Keroon Herder journeymen, Eriln and his wife Lienna.  Despite the lack of siblings, however, there were plenty of other Herder Brats for a young tomboy to run and tumble with, including various cousins, as her family had worked with and around runnerbeasts for generations.  It was assumed that Liesana would follow in the family footsteps, and indeed, she learned quite a bit about runnerbeasts from a very early age, and still loves them and remains an accomplished rider to this day.

Her parents bought her her first pony at the age of four, and by the time she was ten turns of age, she would often accompany them on various trips to the many minor and major Holds of the northern continent.  This early exposure to different people, places, and ways of life proved a great asset later on, when her Harper training demanded she learn to work smoothly with a myriad of different personality types and backgrounds.  However, this carefree, on-the-road lifestyle ultimately cost her her parents, and very nearly her own life.

When Liesana was 13, she and her parents were ferrying a small herd of sales stock over the high mountains from Keroon to Bitra Hold.  An error in Eriln's Threadfall charts proved to have fatal consequences as the deadly rain began to descend when the little family was moving through a high pass outside of the dragonrider's coverage.  They attempted to flee, but even the fleetest of runners is no match against Thread.  Liesana was spared when the young mare she was riding, Storm Dancer, panicked and sent both of them over the edge of the trail into a narrow crevasse with a small cave at it's head.  Despite a broken arm, she managed to secure both herself and the mare inside before succumbing mercifully to unconsciousness, spared the sight and sound of her parents' demise.

Found five days later by a search party, and returned to Keroon Hold, she lay in a high fever for three weeks, caused by infection setting in in the broken arm.  She nearly lost it, as it was, and it took several determined turns to bring it to full use once more.

Nursed back to health by her recently-widowed aunt Rilna, Liesana came to the conclusion that this second chance at life should not be wasted by blindly following family tradition, no matter how fond she was of runnerbeasts.  At age 16, she decided that she would join Harper Hall, and over the howled protests of more traditional family members, arranged with her aunt to catch the next boat to Ista Island.   To this day, her uncle Lian still needles her about returning to Herder whenever he infrequently visits.

Surviving an entrance interview with Journeyman Marius, Liesana became one of many Harper Apprentices, and took to the life much like a fish to water.  She made many friends, pulled pranks, got into and out of trouble, and generally thoroughly enjoyed herself, the wildness tempered with a work ethic almost frightening in it's dedication.  Her cot often didn't see her presence as she mastered her specialty of Archives/Law, but by the age of 21, she was presented with a Journeyman's knot by her mentor and cousin, Journeyman Tolia.

Upon that blessed event, Liesana's goals eased a bit, and she devoted her time and energy to living in the moment.  One of the more relaxed journeyfolk, she soon attracted a gaggle of mentees, and a fosterling, all as bright and most as mischevious as herself.  Their varied escapades might cause grey hairs in others, but Liesana tends to regard them fondly as payback for her own somewhat wild youth.   A youth in which she'll a trifle proudly recount that she "Broke all the Apprentice Rules at least once... The secret is to be discreet."

After a couple of Turns spent on itinerant routes and just generally knocking about the Hall and teaching classes, Liesana was sent out to deliver some messages to Smith Hall while she recovered from a knife gash across her palm.  Upon getting there, she suddenly found herself either being offered or asking for a posting, she's still not quite sure which.  In any case, she apparently passed the test, and her 23rd Turnday found her a posted journeyman liason to a rather interesting Craft indeed.  Smith has certainly broadened her personal horizons and tolerances, what with it's ranker-abetted food fights, assassin-trained Headwoman, and a Craftmaster who'll  knife you for calling him 'sir'.   Oddly enough, she's in her element, and is actually learning to handle a blade herself.  When in Rome, after all.

Her personal life has had it's ups and downs as well, most watched most avidly by her friends, colleagues and mentees, a fitting punishment for one who's meddled most shamelessly in others' affairs of the heart.  She and her best friend from apprentice days, now-Journeyman Kryz, were once something a little more than friends and a little less than lovers, to the entertainment of Hall gossips, and the most unusual matchmakers.  Her aunt meddled shamelessly, Headwoman Arakiel once kidnapped him for her, and mutual friends are of the opinion that the two should just take the plunge and hit the bed together.  She attempted to ignore all this, and blushed furiously if quizzed closely on events.  However, that affair ended badly, and Liesana is now single once more, and a good bit more wise and wary of matters of the heart, although she still hopes that she and Kryz might one day be friends again.

Recently, she's been up to her eyeballs in work surrounding smuggling cases, mediation disputes, and other things pertaining to her specialty, diving in with an energy and dedication frightening to behold for an unwary apprentice, as she cheerfully dragoons any unoccupied hands into assisting her with whatever needs doing, and hang any prior obligations!  Oddly enough, when this hard work earned her her Senior Journeymanship, she seemed rather baffled to be handed the honour.  This, after all, is more like play than work.  Right?  Her goals now are to keep busy, have fun, shepherd her mentees towards their own walking of the tables, and try and dodge a Master's knot for as long as possible.  Masters are such sober creatures, you know.
