BC Place Stadium

B.C. Place Stadium is the biggest air -supported domed stadium in the world. More than 60000 people can stay warm and dry while they take in their favorite events. The only thing between them and the elements outside is the thin fiberglass and Teflon roof, high above. It's like walking under a fabric sky--one that's only 1/30 inch thick but stronger than steel.

In just a few hours, B.C. Place Stadium can convert from a football stadium packed with screaming fans to a more intimate concert bowl where the crowd can hush to the strains of a violin solo. There's more. As an exhibition venue, we have up to 247000 square feet (22946 sq.m) of exhibit space. And for smaller crowds it can transform centre field into a remarkable banquet hall.

To top things off, B.C. Place Stadium is right in the middle of one of North America's most beautiful cities, Vancouver. Close to transit, theatres, hotels, and parking. There are over 24000 parking spaces within a 15 minute walk (and that's through some pretty nice scenery!). Greater Vancouver is a cosmopolitan city of more than 1.5 million people on the west coast of British Columbia. With its business savvy and stunning natural setting, Vancouver's fast becoming an international centre for commerce and tourism.

Cool Facts about the BC Place Stadium:

B.C. Place is the largest air-supported stadium in North America, covering 10 acres in all!
It's a nice long walk around the outside...the circumference is 760 meters (2500 feet)!
Speaking of walking, there's enough concrete in B.C. Place to build a sidewalk from Vancouver to Tacoma, Washington!
The roof is 10 acres of fiberglass woven fabric.
There are 2 layers of fabric with a 4 foot space between them.
when it snows, hot air is pumped between these layers to melt 6 inches of snow per hour ... if it snows more than that in Vancouver, we're moving!
Our roof lets in 20% natural light. That's because the total thickness of each layer is only 1/30 inch (0.85 millimeters)-- and it's stronger than steel!
The heartbeat of our building is the air-support system of the fans!
16 fans were used to inflate the roof ... in less than 1 hour!
These same electric powered fans keep the air pressure inside the stadium at a higher level than the air outside.
This extra air pressure is the only thing keeping the roof up -- there are no beams or steel used at all to support it!
If the fans were turned off and the doors shut, it would take 4-6 hours to deflate the roof!
The HUMAN fans at B.C. Place have consumed enough popcorn to fill 24 Olympic pools!
And enough hotdogs that, laid end to end, Would stretch to San Francisco!
