Your thoughts about Shane: I'm weeping as I type this so forgive any typos. I met Shane when I was working for NBN and he was fronting the Simpletons. The band's ex-manager Stu was a workmate and talked me into seeing a gig at the SCU. I bought the "Smother" EP that night and thought it the freshest thing I'd ever heard. Over the next few years I did my best to invent ways to get The Simpletons onto our local news - and managed to about six times. On at least one occasion he failed to turn up for an interview so as to force us to focus on Dazza and Cheersy. That seems ironic now, I suppose. At the time I thought they were simply the best band in Australia - I still do. Shane's lyrics were so witty without being cynically smart-arsed. He seemed to celebrate the things in life we all too often overlook. I wish he still was. He was an inspiration for aspiring poets like myself and I'm sure thousands of others. I'm gonna go play "These Days" now and sook a bit more. Vale Shane - Dazza, keep the Candle burning huh? Love to all Bruce MacKenzie.

And under the steps
Is where I'll stash one cigarette
For when I come back
For if I come back
