Some Stuff About Me

Let me tell you a bit about myself. My beginnings in dear Debbie's psyche is not entirely clear. There are memories and behaviours that have been assigned to my influence even in early childhood, but no one is quite sure about that anymore. But we do know that during her teen years, as she devoured works by Mary Stewart, Anne McCaffrey and (most especially) J.R.R. Tolkien, the groundwork was being laid for my emergence. Not only did she love their works, but also the place where they all came from, Great Britain. The true gestation began in 1980, when she became a fan of the rock group Queen. In mid-January 1982, during our first trip to London, she was enchanted with the place and the people, and I was born. It was also I who gave her the impetus to write her/our first novel, and one of the characters was actually another person inside, Phoenix.

Phoenix and I were the dominant alters until 1987, when we began university and Deborah (the scientist) joined us in being the main personas. We have pretty much remained so until most recently, except of course during periods of extreme depression when none of us was in control. When we began a new phase of therapy about two years ago, it became very easy for Deborah to gain the most control, since her goals coincided with those of Suzy (our SO) and the therapists and social workers. So Deborah got to decide what to do, no matter what the rest of us wanted. Biochemistry was just so much more practical, it would take so much less time than switching to English, for example, and so much easier to find a job in that field. Never mind pretty much the rest of us lot would have rathered to take longer and do what more of us wanted. Making outside people happy has always been more important to our system than taking care of the inside.

But I digress. This is supposed to be a page about me, not about Deborah! I'll write more as time goes by. Toodles!
