Neighbours Revealed: Transcript!!

Episode: THREE

In this episode, it shows parts of a Drew and Steph scene being filmed, Kym and Carla rehearsing, chatting with Carla and Dan about scenes and talks to Kym and Dan about on screen kissing...

Dan and Carla are getting ready to film a scene into the garage where Steph drops off a spare part to Drew who is working on a car, yet depressed because of Libby.

Interviewer: The sun doesn't always shine on Ramsay Street as you can see today it's pretty grey and miserable. It's been raining really hard. The scene they were going to do outside the garage has been moved inside to keep them a bit sheltered and it means, the show can carry on... For director Grant Fin, rain is not good news. He has to completely rethink how to shoot the scene indoors. On Neighbours, there's no time in the schedule to postpone filming... Drew the Ramsay Street mechanic is currently nursing a broken heart, after being dumped by Libby. Meanwhile, her best friend Steph, is secretly in love with him... Grant is happy with the first take, now he must shoot the same scene in a different angle...

Dan and Carla have just done a shot and is briefly talking to the interviewer

Carla: We're not used to this weather anymore

Interview: They want it sort of always sunny, don't they?

Dan: Yeah, we've got our thermals underneath now. It's the first time I've worn this all year. You tuck them in and you get the thermal pants which are really uncool. You get those little pocket warmers which are great. You sort of start to crank up all the old winter gear now

Carla: In summer we wear all this hot gear. I wear my leathers in summer and in winter we wear almost nothing

Neighbours' cast gives a brief guide on its slang

Interviewer: Here's our Aussie Guide to Neighbours' slang

Alan: My letter's D which stands for Dag. A dag is someone who's a bit naff. And my other letter is N and it stands for naff which is something that's a bit daggy... if you get me.

Jackie: My letter is S and it stands for Shocker. And a shocker is a person, an item of clothing, food, weather, anything you find distasteful

Dan: My letter's C and it's for cobber. And you'll probably use it in a sentence to say hello to someone when you first meet them. Like, 'How's it goin' cobber?' sort of thing {Laughs}

Carla: S for sunnies. Sun glasses. {Laughs} I can't believe you guys don't know this!

Jackie: P is for pash. And a pash is a kiss, an Australian kiss. Something that we do in Erinsborough as often as possible

Back at the garage, Dan and Carla talk during a break.

VO: Outside it's still raining, they've only managed to finish the first shot.

Interviewer: What are you doing lying under that car

Dan: It's getting messy. It's a practical joke, they thought if it rains, they'd chuck him out here, get him wet.

Interviewer: You almost look like you knew what you were doing with the ranch thing

Dan: The ranch thing? Oh, there wasn't actually a nut there at all. {Laughs} I was just on a piece of post going 'they can't see this, can they?'

Interviewer: So, if I asked you to change a spark plug, would you know what to do?

Dan: Change a spark plug? Isn't that something to do with like knitting? {Laughs} No...

Interviewer: What was it like driving in there? Easy to hit your spot?

Carla: Yeah, I like honing around in that thing, a bit of a beast.

Dan: You do, too... {Laughs}

Interviewer: You've got quite a lot to think about though don't you? Getting your lines right, stopping at the right place...

Carla: Yeah well, I could leave the props there so that made it a whole lot easier. Doesn't take me as long to get out.

Interviewer: So now that they've done that, you don't have to lie flat on your back anymore...

Dan: That was just the first shot, probably will have a very nasty shot of my head which is what we're doing now.

Kym and Carla area at the Kennedy's rehearsing for a scene where Steph visits Libby after she comes back from the hospital

{Rehearsing}

Carla: Promise me you'll listen...

Kym: Maybe.

Kym and Carla laughs at what was said and they move to the table

{End rehearsing}

Grant: What choice does she have?

VO: The story liners are allowed to have a vivid imagination, but sometimes keeping up with all the different plots can be a bit confusing. Carla and Kym are rehearsing a scene at the Kennedy house and there's a lot more to remember than just their lines.

Grant: Where are you two guys in term of... the last time I saw you, you were dead on the road and in hospital

VO: What's even more confusing is that the different scenes and episodes are shot out of order. So it's hardly surprising that the girls and Grant can't quite remember what stage this particular storyline has reached.

Grant: This is the first time you've come around to the house, in actually fact.

Carla: Is this where I find out you've told Drew's parents? Is that what this is about?

Kym: Um... hang on a second...

Grant: Now, how fast are you walking? Are you...

Kym: There's no mention in the forward blocks of walking so I don't know exactly what the progression is but I think we're just taking it as cautious with the stitches and a bit of pain, I'm still on pain killers.

Carla stands by the door of the Kennedy's, getting ready for rehearsing

VO: Finally, Grant and the girls work out exactly how they're going to play the scene

Grant: Now, I wonder if you do go to the door. Why don't you just say come in?

Kym: Sure

Grant: So it's go... she hangs up... the door opens...

Carla: It could be anybody at the door

Kym: Not in Erinsborough... {Laughs} it's got to be one of the Neighbours.

Grant: Unless you did, you know, 'it's only me'... you know one of those?

Kym: A knock enter scenario

Grant: A knock enter... we're looking at knock enter

Kym has finished rehearsing and is at the local playing pool with the interviewer. They go and sit by the bar for a chat.

VO: Kym has had a tough rehearsal and there's only one place to unwind, the local

Interviewer: You're quite a family girl...

Kym: Very much, yeah. Very, very much so. I'm Maltese

Interviewer: Oh really?

Kym: Sort of yeah, born with the family, so to speak

Interviewer: So what language would you speak at home then?

Kym: We speak English but a Maltese accent.

Interviewer: How does that go?

Kym: Ahh¡K it happens, if I talk about my mum, it happens. If I talk on the phone with my mum, it happens. But it's only when I talk about it I talk like that...

Interviewer: {Laughs} Ok, tell me about your mother.

VO: As Libby, Kym has a lot of passionate scenes with Drew

{Shots of Kym as Libby kissing on screen}

Kym: It's pretty awkward at work when you have to kiss someone with everybody watching you.

Interviewer: I bet you love it

Kym: No! {Laughs}

Interviewer: Come on, you gotta be honest

Kym: Oh... it's embarrassing. I find it really embarrassing

Interviewer: Still?

Kym: Yeah...

Interviewer: You've had loads of kisses on screen. You're always falling in and out of love. What are you on about?

{Scene}

Libby: I love you.

{End Scene}

VO: Dan Paris has his own thoughts on the subject.

Dan: I always thought when I started, I think most young guys think the same thing when they start on the show, is that you get to snog a whole lot of people you normally wouldn't be able to snog. That's great! Not that I've snogged any, but of course Kym.

Back at the local chatting by the bar

Interviewer: Just between the two of us then, Kym, honestly has there ever been a bit of a thing between you and Dan?

Kym: No, not between me and Dan {Laughs}

Kym does an exaggerated relieved motion with her hands when the interviewer wasn't looking

Interviewer: I thought I was going to get a scoop there

Kym: No, we've always just been friends

Interviewer: Does that happen though? Off screen, you know, have there been a few relationships within Neighbours?

Kym: Um... at times... hmm... yeah {Laughs}

Interviewer: Not naming names then?

Kym: No... {Laughs}

Dan talks about kissing on screen and scripted kisses

Dan: When I first started, you know cause you do rehearse that sort of thing but ours aren't scripted, very rarely scripted and we just kiss when we think is appropriate, I mean, it's something that we will... maybe a kiss scripted and we'll say no, it's not appropriate and won't do it but that's a mutual agreement. Or if there's not a kiss scripted and we think, hey it's be good to have a little pash here, we'll do it. It's no problems at all.

At the bar, Kym continues to talk briefly about rehearsing kisses

Kym: You do that old thing like in rehearsals. {Demonstrated} You sort of go kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss...

Interviewer: And then you never actually do it

Kym: You don't actually kiss in rehearsals. It's going when you've got the thing going on in real- life that... {Laughs} you can always tell when actors have a thing going on in real life, they kiss in rehearsals

Interviewer: Really?

Kym: That's the truth... what did I tell ya?

Script Editor talks about the biggest storyline

Script editor: We've just come up with the story for the year. Libby and Drew, I've been story editing for a year and a half, we've put a good two years into their characters. Starting off hating each other, then loving each other, then finally getting into a marriage then Libby finally agrees and she was a head strong girl who was never going to marry.

{Scene}

Libby: So what are you doing?

Drew: I'm asking you to marry me

Libby: What?

Drew: I'm on my knee, asking you to marry me.

{End Scene}

Script editor: We have quiet scenes back in Ramsay Street with Drew saying 'here's the kilt' because he is going to wear a kilt and it¡¦s going to be a big wedding and stuff like that

{Scene}

Drew: This is my kilt

Susan: Ohhh!!!

Karl: The bride and groom splendid in frocks

Susan: It's a kilt... oh look, it's gorgeous

{End Scene}

Scriptwriter: Meanwhile, Tess' husband who she's estranged with at the moment, Brendan, who has got a violent streak. {Scenes of Brendan and the accident} He comes back on the street, he finds out that Tess is going out to a nightclub with Daniel, it's completely, nothing going on but, he flies into a rage, he speeds off down the streets driving like a maniac, it's raining and he knocks Libby off the bike and it's our big 'is Libby going to live or die?' It's our cliffhanger of the year.
