This years Joseph Maurer Award Recipients

Youth-Anthony Marano

Adult-Rev. John Case

The Joseph Maurer Award has been a tradition of Shiwa Pew Names Lodge 535, and it was continued even after Shiwa Pew Names merged with Gitche Gumee. Now Japeechen Lodge's Mni Oya'te Kin Chapter(1) and Loweneau Kewe Chapter(2) are the two chapters that continue the tradition because we are the two chapters that were from Shiwa Pew Names. The other two chapters give the Lutton Award which was started in 1993 after Japeechen Lodge was formed. But the Maurer Award is given to the youth and adults of Chapters 1 and 2 each year at the Annual Lodge Awards Dinner. The award is chosen by Arromen who have already received the award. Most of the time these honored Arrowmen continue service. Such as Ethan Draddy in 1981, who is now the current Jersey Shore Council Scout Executive, Jeff Goldsmith, who is now the Associate Section Advisor, Bill Freeland, who is now the Lodge Staff Advisor, and the Council Program Director, and Bryson Palmer, who is now the Section Chief! So this award is given to the Arrowmen who give the greatest service, and go beyond their call of duty, who work day in and day out helping the OA and the Lodge. These are the elite Arrowmen who continue to give service to our Lodge!
