What is "Accident Reconstruction"?

An "accident" is defined as "an unexpected and undesirable event". Accident reconstruction involves determining how and why an accident happened - accomplished first by correctly interpreting the clues left by the remaining physical evidence of the accident, then by reconstructing and studying the events both preceding and following the accident.

A peculiarity of this profession is that accident investigations are methodically worked backwards, time-wise - from the end results back to the beginning sequence of events.

All kinds of accidents can be investigated through reconstruction methodology plane crashes, crane failures, bridge collapses, vehicular collisions, etc.

Reconstructions of traffic collisions, specifically, typically involve determining the factors which contributed to the cause and severity of the collision, such as excessive speed, poor visibility, a defective tire, the failure of an occupant to wear a safety belt, or the disregard of traffic control devices.

We find it fascinating how many "Accident Reconstruction" sites are nothing but a bunch of over paid engineers with no or little actual experience in this type of critical work.  Here we are talking about the lives off all those left behind, those that are permanently disabled or those that died and you actually get an attorney who goes out and hires a company with no actual experience!

We have placed several photos here from several "accident investigation" (AI) sites found on the web.  Please advise if they are not for the public domain & they will be removed.

WARNING!  The photos are HARD to look at and are REAL.

While they are placed here as a shock value, they also present to you a real fact... someone died and someone arrived to just place some information on some paper work or someone worked on an Investigation.

Who do you want to work your accident?

This web site will NOT recommend a company for you.  You, your family and attorney need to make that choice.  We are here to present you with some hard truths and to make you think about whom you are going to hire.

Something you and your attorney should also remember.  Accident Reconstruction on any scale takes time.  Attorneys are notorious for dragging cases on and then at the last minute calling someone up and saying they need something done yesterday.  If your attorney tries this, he or she isn't worth the time or money your spending on them.

If you just can't find a good attorney, look for the following -
  1. A consultant in accident reconstruction.  Generally cheaper, but very knowledgeable and should have practicable (real life) experience.  We think these are the services you should look for.  They will tell you if they can't do something and or will work with you to find someone who does accident reconstruction (AR).  The consultant will work the case for you and use the AR as needed.  This will save you money in the long run.
  2. Accident Reconstruction.  More expensive and may not have any real experience other than a degree in engineering.
  3. Call your local BBB.  They should have a list of reputable businesses in your area.
