FIRST AND LAST CONTACT
STRABANE 1990(ish)RUC officers encountered an IRA patrol who were about to mortar the police station. One of the brave
PIRA boys decided to stand and fight. the RUC shat themselves and let off a few rounds from an SMG whilst reversing in their
car, less one wing mirror shot off by PIRA. As this was happening we were the other side of town in a field. We hit the deck
at around 6am after the shots echoed around town, every one of us froze not knowing what was going on until CPL Nick BREEN
shouted the imortal words' TAKE COVER'. After that Fat DAZ picked us up and threw us about in the back of his van. in
an attempt to make CONTACT. We spent the rest of the day chasing shadows around the head of town. Then freezing our nuts of
on a cordon while ATO sorted the mortar baseplate out.
The photo looks good but we were only a few hundred metres from the border. Any sniper worth his salt would have had
a field day with that white background.(yes it was a pose)
