Blur

The familiar 'Woo-hoo' of Song 2 can be heard everywhere. TV advertisements, movie trailers, shops - it can be heard pumping on everyone's stereos. But Blur's history traces way back before the worldwide phenomenal success of 'Song 2,' otherwise known as 'the Woo-hoo song.' Blur, originally known as Seymour, revolutionised pop and indie music in 1994, and called it "Britpop." No other band before had produced such happy and successful pop songs like 'Boys & Girls,' 'Parklife,' and 'Popscene.' The domination of Blur started there. Swept away 4 Brit awards in 1995, went to number one with their past 4 albums, with many top 10 singles, Blur are definitely a band to go down in British music history. After winning the battle against Oasis in 1995, where 'Country House' made it to number 1 and not Oasis' 'Roll With It,' they released 'The Great Escape,' which also went to number 1. However, in 1997 Blur dropped their pop sounds and changed to a more indie sound, but still keeping small traces of early Blur songs here and there. In 1999, they released '13' and their sound changed completely. Some might call it self-indulgent, but personally, I think it is a masterpiece. After going through so many disagreements, differences, musical changes and so much public pressure, they have still managed to stay together despite of rumours and speculations, close-knit as they always were. The smorgasbord of personalities - Alex the night prowler, Graham and his music obsessions, Damon's outspokeness, Dave and his cheese sandwiches, make Blur if if anything, unique and interesting. Few bands are similar to Blur in the way that there is no true frontman - everyone knows the other members, and they are just as important as the others.  Here's my humble tribute to Damon Albarn, Alex James, Dave Rowntree and Graham Coxon, the band we call Blur, and it's barely a masterpiece at all. Have fun surfing, and I hope you enjoy it.

This is in no way connected to Blur but being a huge Spice Girls fan I just thought I'd put this banner on my site.
