"Yikes! What an eyesore!" I exclaimed when I saw this thing for the first time. You're asking yourself, "So what is that thing?" Believe it or not, this is a Northern Irish police station! Not exactly you're friendly neighborhood police storefront--but, of course, RUC is not exactly your friendly neighborhood police force. This roadside mural concisely states the problem with the RUC along with a good solution! |
If
British citizens wonder why their taxes are so high, they should visit
South Armagh and see where their hard-earned money goes. The otherwise
lovely countryside is spoiled by tall watchtowers like this, taking
pictures of sheep, fields of barley, rolling meadows, and curious tourists
like me!
"My Brother is not a Criminal,"
states this poignant roadside memorial. The ten crosses are for the
ten men who died on hungerstrike in 1981 over the right to be considered
Prisoners of War instead of ordinary criminals.
