--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:
Microsoft Outlook 98
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note: These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook
with the Corporate Workgroup/Other option. This option allows you
to use Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) services.
To determine your installation type, on the Help Menu click About
Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook you should see "Corporate"
if you have the Corporate Workgroup installation.
Symptoms
When you create a Digitally Signed (S/MIME) message and send it
to another person on a Microsoft Exchange Server, the recipient
has no Digital ID when the message is opened.
Cause
The "Clients support S/MIME messages" option is not selected
on the Microsoft Exchange Server. This option is not selected by
default.
Resolution
Before sending the message, follow these steps:
On the File menu, click Properties.
On the Security tab, click to clear "Send clear text signed
message."
To make this the default setting, follow these steps:
On the Tools menu, click Options.
On the Security tab, click to select "Add digital signature
to outgoing messages."
Click to clear "Send clear text signed message."
Note: All of your messages will be sent digitally signed. If you
want to turn this off for a particular message, follow these steps
within your new mail message:
On the View menu, click Options.
Click to clear "Add digital signature to outgoing message."
Click Close, and send the message.
