OL98: (IMO) "Please select a cover page..." Error When Faxing

Note: These procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Internet Mail Only option. To determine your installation type, on the Help menu click About Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook you should see "Internet Mail Only" if you have the Internet Mail Only option installed.

Symptoms

When sending a fax from Microsoft Outlook 98 Internet Mail Only support, you may receive a non-deliverable message with the following error:

An error occurred while sending the Fax.
The following recipient could not be reached:
T<telephone number>
The error is : Please select a cover page or attach a file
then re-send your fax.
Total number of pages is 0, number of pages sent is 0.


Cause

You did not choose to send a cover page with the document.

Resolution

Select the option to send a cover page with the message.

-or-

Send the message as an attachment.

Status

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Outlook 98.

To Select the Option to Send a Cover Page

On the Tools menu, click Options.


On the Fax tab, click Template.


On the Cover Page tab, click to select Send Cover Page, and then click OK twice.


To Send the Message as an Attachment

On the Message's File menu, click Print.


In the Print dialog box, click to select "Symantec WinFax Starter Edition" from the Printer Name list and click OK.


Outlook opens a new message with the initial one as an attachment. Enter the fax number on the To line in the format Fax@<telephone number> and click Send.
