Peter N. Russo was born on Monday, October 4, 1920. A native of Brooklyn, New York, he was 79 years old at the time of his death.
Peter served initially with C Battery, 29th Field Artillery, and was a veteran of the D-Day Invasion of Normandy, at Utah Beach on June 6, 1944.
During the invasion, B Battery suffered the tragic loss of 39 men when LCT 548 hit a floating mine, exploded,
and sank. Later, when B Battery was being reformed, Peter became their Chief of the #1 gun crew, serving in that capacity for the duration of World War II.
Peter N. Russo passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2000 in Brooklyn, New York.
