Flag Day – A Roaring Success!

Once again a very successful flag day was achieved at the Roaring Meg retail park over the weekend of 17th & 18th of November. I am very pleased to say that I was inundated with offers of time from the regular collectors and new members. Thanks to all our volunteers who helped to raise the mighty sum of £700.44! and a special welcome must go to new member Helen Tucker and her husband Rod who helped out on the day, what a great way to start your membership!

Without these regular efforts the Stevenage Branch would find it hard to exist, so when your feet start to get cold and your back aches I am sure you will be pleased to know that the money you raise will be of immense help to people with MS.

If you have never been involved in a flag day why not come to the next one and talk to a volunteer ? Be with them and get a feel for what is a very rewarding hour or two. This is all we ask, one or two hours of your time, to make a very big difference. We have found that a large number of collectors, over one or two hours, is more efficient than a few over a long period. You need to be fresh and alert which helps give confidence to the donors, especially the children, when they approach you.

Please note that transport is always on offer if required and wheelchairs can beaccommodated. Thank you all once again, and well done.

Cheers! From the Lytton Arms

On the previous Sunday, 10th November Sue & Hazel were asked to go along to The Lytton Arms Public House in Knebworth.

New member, Janet Huddle had a surprise waiting for them. The pub regularly raise funds for charity and this time we were the fortunate recipients. A cheque to the value of £1,000 was presented to us. To say that they were gob smacked is an

understatement. The only restriction the pub has put on the gift was that it should be used for the benefit of the members of the Branch and it will be our pleasure to ensure that happens. Our thanks go to all the people at the pub who contributed, especially the landlord, Stephen Nye and Norman Ansell, pictured above to the right, in the natty T shirt.

Norman seems to spend most of his ‘supping’ time on Sunday lunchtimes walking around the pub encouraging patrons to buy raffle tickets.

The next recipient of the Sunday Raffle will be The Willow Foundation, so if you can, pop in for a drink or a meal one Sunday and support the Lytton Arms helping charities like ourselves.
