day TWO
Things fell apart a bit on Day 2, but not too terribly. The afternoon began with some keynote speeches by Matthew Good and Gene Simmons. Also involved in the keynote session were MC's David Hawkes and George Stroumboulopoulos (I think I have that right), and a musical presentation of 'Buried Heart', a tribute to Vancouver's missing women, featuring Wyckham Porteus and John Wozniak. All told, the keynote session lasted about three times as long as it did last year. After some lunch and some downtime, I was off again to begin the night at the Brickyard with Cinderpop, only to discover that they had been pushed back a half hour. I was hoping to catch Scratch, a blues-rock band from Finland who were opening for Matt Good, but strangely, the room was already over capacity and I wasn't allowed in. However, they let me through in the middle of Matt's set. I only stayed for ten minutes, and wasn't allowed to shoot anyhow. The end of the night took me from rockin' John Ford to the relaxing Alex Murdoch. The perfect wind-down.
