Here's the scoop...

A little blurb from Emilio Estevez about his TG experience.

ee20.jpg

Posted by EMILIO on October 29, 2003 at 09:21:55:

 Hey all,

Just a big shout out and mucho tahnks for your continued support and encouragement.

Thank you Haley, Lis, Bronwyn, Steph C, Steph in LA, Emma, Tammy, Sean, Dancing Tiger Bait, Karin and of course, Amy - our creator!!!! :-) If I've left anyone out, apologies, apologies, apologies.

The episode of "The Guardian" I directed will air next Tues, Nov. 4th. The experience for me was interesting. The show's creator, David Hollander, wrote "Rated-X" and has been a friend ever since. He encouraged me to get back in the "directing saddle" and work on his show. I was reluctant for the past three years, but finally gave in and had a great time. As a director for the TV one hour format, you don't get much input, as the show has a look and feel that has already been established, you simply go with the flow and shoot the script they give you, direct the actors they cast.

But all in all, it was cool to see how it's done week after week.

An article from primetimetv.about.com

p657.jpg

This show breaks almost every rule of television production and that's what makes it a hit.this show tries to leave that behind. Although the story lines feature the downtrodden and ill, the characters are real. No one is too good to be true and no one is truly evil. They deal with money and power as realities in life, not the bastions of corruption. To view full article, click on the following Web address here .

Charles Malik Whitfield's new movie.

Charles Malik Whitfield's new movie "High Times Potluck," was released in Chicago, L.A., New York City and New Orleans on Oct. 17, and is being touted as a new cult film. Let's just say it's about a mobster who is turned on to marijuana by a punk rocker and involves a suitcase of the weed that keeps turning up in different hands throughout the film. New drama sounds like "The Guardian"

p660.jpg

Sci Fi Channel is developing the drama pilot "Dead Lawyers," from Zanuck Co. and Sony Pictures TV. Sean Patrick Flanery and Oscar winner F. Murray Abraham have signed on to star in the project.

The drama, which sounds like a cross between "Dead Like Me" and "The Guardian," features Flanery as Jimmy Quinn, a ruthless, soulless attorney to the rich and famous. When he dies in a car crash, Quinn is sent back to Earth where he must work pro bono cases until he can undo all of the harm he has apparently done to society. He joins mentor Abraham at a law firm of dead attorneys, all of whom are similarly trying to atone for their corporate sins.

JAG's new episode's title

JAG's January 8th episode is entitled: The Guardian.

Is a pre-emption just a pre-emption?

66.jpg

CBS pre-empted "The Guardian" and "Judging Amy." Pre-emptions happen all the time in TV; it's just part of the business. Both shows were always scheduled to be bumped last week, initially for Part 2 of "The Reagans." When that fell by the wayside, CBS slotted "Without a Trace" and "CSI: Miami" because they often get better ratings, even in reruns.

But networks have become so trigger-happy that viewers freak when a show disappears for even one week. I got multiple calls -- one from my own father -- worried that both shows had been canceled.

Relax. Use this rule of thumb: Unless you read a cancellation announcement here, a pre-emption is just a pre-emption.To view full article, click on the following Web address at here.

Lawers Get a Clue

1.jpg

The Guardian, starring hottie Simon Baker as a greedy lawyer trying to redeem himself, isn't flashy. But the fact that the show has become a quiet little hit for CBS definitely hasn't escaped the notice of other networks' execs. So, it's no surprise that several new pilots revolve around lawyers out to find heart and soul; among the notables are ABC's The Flannerys, with Once and Again's Jeffrey Nordling, and The Street Lawyer, based on the John Grisham novel. TV Gal Picks the Best of 2003

zp_tve_tvgal_logo_header.jpg

Best brooder: Ryan on "The O.C.," who takes the title from Nick on "The Guardian."

Rob Owen's top 10 list

25.jpg

5. "THE GUARDIAN" (CBS)
Last season the show got bogged down in the Nick-Lulu relationship, and lately it's been threatening to do so again (how can the Lulu pregnancy story turn out to be anything but a TV cliche?), but in between there were some exceedingly strong episodes, particularly the one filmed partially in Donora featuring a pitiful, racist old man.

And the Jake story -- he's been having sex with guys but still claims to be straight -- is particularly intriguing, especially the first episode that showed the brutality Jake (Raphael Sbarge) is capable of to protect his secret. To view full article, click on the following web address at here.
