SEMINAR ON SOCIAL, ECONOMIC AND
POLITICAL TRANSFORMATION
IN CHILE AND ARGENTINA
Scope and Objectives
The special four‑week
professional development program in Chile and Argentina is part of an on‑going
International Studies Program. The 15 members team participating in the seminar
will consist of social science, humanities, education and business professors
belonging to the universities and colleges in Georgia.
The primary purpose of the
program is to provide overseas academic and field experiences to faculty
members so that they can increase their knowledge, provide greater coverage to
the two countries in the courses they teach, and also help students overcome
stereotypical images. The ultimate goal is to promote mutual understanding
between Chile/Argentina and the United States.
The specific objectives of
the seminar are to:
The visiting team will be
affiliated with the University of Chile (Santiago) and the Advanced School of
Economy and Business Administration in Argentina (Buenos Aires) and participate
in an academic program of lectures and field trips for which native scholars
will serve as resource persons. During the course of the overseas program, participants
will also spend a few days in and around Valparaiso, Concepcion, La Serena,
Cordoba and Mendoza.
Throughout the duration of
the project, seminar delegates will divide into a number of study groups focusing
on such topics as urban and rural lifestyles, modernization, educational
systems, social institutions and cultural heritage.
In Cordoba, Argentina, the
seminar involves three presentations, to be held on June 27, by the following
