Cinnamon Dough
1 cup ground cinnamon
3/4 cup applesauce

Mix cinnamon and applesauce until a stiff dough is formed. Roll out to a 1/4" thickness. Cut into shapes with cookie cutters. If the shape is to be used as an ornament, make a hole at the top of each shape to lace sting through. Air dry several days on a wire rack, tuning each ornament occasionally.

Sparkling Salt Clay
1 cup cornstarch
about 1 1/2 cups cold water
2 cups rock salt (regular salt can be used)
1 cup water

Thin cornstarch with 1 1/2 cups cold water until it is as thick as gravy. Boil salt in 1 cup water. Add the cornstarch mixture to the boiling salt water, stirring constantly to avoid lumping. Cook until mixture forms a large mass. Turn out onto wax paper and cool. Store in an airtight container. (finished project may be dried in 250 degree oven for 1 hour, or allow to air dry.)

Shiny Paint

3-D Soap Paint
6T. liquid starch
1 C. biodegradable soap powder

Whip ingredients with beater. Mixture may be tinted with tempera.

Finger Paint
1 envelope unflavored gelatin
2 1/2 cups cold water
1 cup cornstarch
1/2 cup soap flakes
2 drops of icing color paste (available at craft and baking supply stores).

In a small bowl, sprinkle the gelatin over 1/2 cup of the water and mix until dissolved. Combine the cornstarch, soap flakes, and remaining 2 cups water in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the gelatin mixture to the saucepan, stirring until it becomes thick. Remove the pan from the heat and strain the mixture equally into 4 containers. Cool 1 hour and then add a different shade of icing color paste to each container. Fold in color until thoroughly mixed. NOTE: undiluted color paste will stain hands and clothing. Store in refrigerator when not in use.

Easy Finger Paint
3 cups Vano starch
1/2 cup Sta-Flo liquid starch

Mix together. This mixture will need to dry slightly before it is pliable. Store in airtight container.

Soap Flakes Finger Paint
1 1/2 cups dry laundry starch
1 1/2 cups soap flakes
water

food coloring

Flour and Salt Finger Paint
1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
3/4 cup water

Mix flour and salt, then add water. Mix thoroughly. This paint is very grainy, unlike other finger paints. As a result, the children will enjoy touching the artwork after it is dried.

Pudding Paint
Cook 1 pkg. pudding according to directions. Pour 1/4 cup on waxed paper. Allow children to make designs with their fingers. Have kids lick their fingers! You may also want to place a small amount in a ziploc bag and have children paint on the bag.

Salt Paint
Mix 2 teaspoons salt to 1 teaspoon liquid starch and add to paint. You can also just add a lot of salt to paint, but you have to use quite a bit, if not using the starch.

Silly Putty
1 part Elmer's Glue
1 part liquid starch
food coloring

Stir with a spoon, then with hands. Add more starch if too sticky.

Magic Putty
2 parts White Elmers Glue (not school glue)

Heat salt and 2/3 cup water over low heat until almost boiling. Mix together cornstarch and 1/2 cup cold water. Add cornstarch mixture to salt mixture.

Paste
1 cup cold water
1 cup flour
2 1/1 cups boiling water
1 T. powdered alum
3/4 tsp. oil of wintergreen

Mix the cold water and flour together, stirring until smooth. Add the boiling water and mix well. Pour the mixture into the top of a double boiler. Cook over low heat until smooth. Add the alum and stir. Remove from heat. When the mixture is cool, add the oil of wintergreen.

Cornstarch Paste
1/4 tsp. alum
1 T. flour
2 T. cornstarch
3 oz. water

Mix the alum, flour, and cornstarch together. Slowly add the water, stirring to remove the lumps. Cook in a double boiler over low heat, stirring constantly. When paste begins to thicken, remove it from heat. The mixture will continue to thicken as it cooks. If necessary, thin with water. Store in airtight jars.

Bookbinding Glue
1 packet unflavored gelatin
3 T. boiling water
1 T. vinegar
1 t. glycerine

Bubble Solution
3 cups water
1 cup liquid soap (baby bath or baby shampoo)
1 T. sugar

Mix well. Try blowing bubbles with a fly swatter, berry basket or tissue tube!

Long-Lasting Bubbles
3/4 cup liquid soap
1/4 cup glycerin
2 qt. tap water

Mix well. If using straws to blow bubbles, poke a small pinhole near the end of the straw to prevent sucking in the solution.

Paper Mache #1
liquid starch
water
newspaper strips

Mix equal parts of liquid starch and water. Stir until starch is dissolved. Soak newspaper strips in liquid mixture and pat into place.

turpentine
brown paper bags or brown wrapping paper

Hold on opposite corners an lower into the solution. Lift carefully and lay right side up on newspaper to dry. Use to cover scrapbooks, notebooks, lampshades, wastebaskets, and lots of other things. Clean the pan with turpentine.
