Still cranking out hats- actually I finished a beret this morning that I immediately frogged. Too goofy looking! I did finish a Homespun cancer cap my daughter is modeling.

Finished an afghan this morning- my first #35 needle project. The pattern is at www.lionbrand.com. It's knit with 2 strands of Homespun, so it's thick and soft and squishy. You do have to be careful cause you're toes'll poke through, but it'll be great for cozying up with a book and hot chocolate.

Now to finish the other 25 projects I have started! Tonight I'll finish up another hat for the Ships Project then work on a hat for me or a moebius scarf I've started.

November 2, 2003
I've been on a hat binge this past week, working for several charities as well as family- okay, me. If you've never knit for for charity, this is the perfect time to start. One hat or scarf, one pair of baby booties or slippers doesn't take too long to knit up- you probably have stash that would work perfectly. That one item you contribute to a homeless shelter, hospital, or Hospice center could mean the world to someone.

On Sundays, I try to take stock of what I completed the week before, plan what I need to finish today, and decide what I need to focus on in the coming week.

THESHIPS PROJECT

Gail's Waffle Hat

For a great beenie hat pattern, try Gail's Waffle Hat pattern (http://knithats.tripod.com/hat/id3.html). These are going to the Ship's Project (click on the picture to find out more.) The yarn is Bernat Super Value- www.fabric.com has it on sale so I stocked up on guy colors. They washed up squishy and soft, perfect for sleeping cold berths.  When I first started knitting for the Ship's Project, we could stick a note in to the recepient in each item. I only heard back from one person, but that one response made me realize how important each hat, each pair of slippers was to someone. Read some the letters on the Ship's site. Of course, their basic needs are taken care of, but many soldiers and sailors don't have much contact with home, and most are under 20 years old! Reach out and touch someone with a hat! :)

HATS FOR CHEYENNE RIVER RESERVATION

I belong to an online charity crafting group called All Crafts for Charity or AC4C. Check out thier site: http://www.allcrafts4charity.org This month we are knitting, crocheting and sewing for two Native American reservations. These wool hats are for the Cheyenne River Reservation. I used up some dk weight naked wool (no bands on the skeins) so I can't tell you what type of yarn I used, but I will tell you how.

The multi-colored hat was knit with 1 strand each- yellow, lavender, rose. After the ribbing, K1 round, P1 round, then continued in St St, purling every 6th round.

Happy Halloween!

Veiw behind my swing.

The squirrels have taken over my swing in the backyard for nut eating purposes. I swept out the pecan shells so I could sit and knit this afternoon. I finished a wool hat, and my next door neighbor brought me a homemade deep fried apple pie. Of course, Max insisted on several games of fetch. I should have a better pitching arm by now, but I still throw like a girl.

The temperature is in the low 70's, but the leaves are changing colors and nights are deliciously cooler. Most of my garden is brown- a few marigolds, geraniums and mums are still showing off, and I have green tomatoes that may or may not get ripe before they freeze. Fall is amazing. So much change- leaves, the weather, daylight, schedules, attitudes. It's energizing and exhausting, but an incredible time to recharge.
