How many days until spring? Too many! The thermostat says its warm enough inside, but my nose and toes say otherwise. Its a toasty 28 outside. Burrrrr I did get to cross something off my WIP list yesterday. I finished my Jelly Bean socks. Oh, happy feet! I used the Little Shell Socks pattern from Knitlist, but the stripes didnt show off the pattern well, so I frogged and just knit plain. I love the pattern, so when I allow myself to buy more yarn (not until my birthday in April!), Ill knit another pair in a solid color. I also finished a hat that hadn't even made it to my list yet. My head was completely shaved for my surgery, so I dont feel guilty clicking off a hat now and then.

Mock Cable Hat

Materials: Bulky yarn (I used Zellers Chunky Sayelle- 2 skeins);  #9 circs, #10 circs and dp needles

Gauge using #10s and st st: 3.5 sts =1"

Pattern stitch over multiple of 3 stitches:

Round 1: *K 2, P 1, repeat from * around

Round 2: *K into back of second stitch without taking stitch off needle, K first stitch, slip both stitches off needle; P 1, repeat from * around

Rounds 3 and 4: repeat round 1

Cast on 99 stitches using #9 needles and join. Work in pattern for 3". Now for the tricky part- turn your work inside out by tucking the brim down through the middle. The yarn is now on the left-hand side. Slip 1 st from the right needle to the left needle to prevent a hole. Change to #10 circs and st st, decreasing to 77 stitches on the first round.

Work even in st st for 6". Begin decrease rows:

Round 1: K 2 tog, K5 around.

Round 2 and all even: K

Round 3: K 2 tog, K4 around.

R 5: K 2 tog, K3 around.

Continue decreasing in the manner. When you get to the K2 tog around row, keep K 2 togethering until you have about 6 stitches left and finish off.

We've made it through the holidays, and there are only 349 knitting days left until next Christmas! Hopefully I'll have this year's projects finished by then. I did complete a few things in time- an Eros scarf for daughter #1, a pair of socks for my new sister-in-law, a wool scarf I helped daughter #2 knit for her Sunday school teacher, and several hats. I still need to complete my sister's sweater, a scarf for DD #2, and I really need to sew up the sweater I knit for my Mom last year.

Logan's Worm Hat

My 4 yo nephew requested a worm hat the week before Christmas- yes, a worm hat. As he put it, a hat with a worm on it that can look around at everybody while he's wearing it, then he can take it off and he and the worm can look at each other. Of course I had to stop everything and knit a worm hat right away. It's just your basic stocking cap with an i-cord worm sewn on. The eyes are yellow beads, and the mouth is embrordered with red thread.

On a personal note, I haven't kept up with this the way I intended. Had surgery in November- went well, but it it took 10 years for me to get in the sorry comdition I was in, so I expect it'll take a while to regain my health. If anyone has or knows someone who has Chiari Malformation, I highly recommend an evalaution at the Chiari Institute in Great Neck, NY. The doctors are extremely knowledgable and experienced.

Happy New Year, everyone- if anyone is reading. May all your yarn fantasies come true, and all your knitting projects be successful.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
