HAVANA -
The remains of six former comrades-in-arms of Argentine-Cuban
guerrilla legend Ernesto ''Che'' Guevara, all killed fighting in Bolivia
33 years ago, have been flown back to Cuba, state media reported on
Monday.
The arrival on Sunday of the remains of the three Cubans, two Bolivians
and one Peruvian brought to nearly 30 the number of former guerrillas
killed with Guevara whose bodies have been transported to the
communist-ruled island for final burial over the last three years.
They were unearthed in Bolivia by a Cuban forensic team that discovered
the secret grave of Guevara there in 1997.
His body was carried in triumph back to Cuba where it was enshrined in a
specially built mausoleum.
The latest bodies flown back to the island were those of Cubans
Eliseo Reyes Rodriguez, known by his combat nickname ''Capitan San
Luis,'' Antonio Sanchez Diaz, Jose Maria Martinez Tamayo, Bolivians
Serapio Aquino Tudela and Casildo Condori Vargas and Peruvian Restituto
Jose Cabrera Flores.
Their remains are to lie in state at the Havana headquarters of Cuba's
Armed Forces before being transferred to the Guevara memorial in the
central city of Santa Clara.
The six former fighters were part of the guerrilla group led by Guevara
that had tried unsuccessfully to launch a peasant revolution in the
jungles of Bolivia.
Guevara, who had played a leading role in Cuba's 1959 Revolution
alongside Fidel Castro, was killed by the Bolivian army in October,
1967, after being captured wounded.
