Also known as "The 3 Keys" this storyline began during the summer of 2000 when Victor Kiriakis sought out
the help of a reknown geographer to create a map of
the mountainous terrain lining the outskirts of Salem.
This geographer was Michelle Labelle
who had only recently arrived in town
and was initially unsure of Victor's proposition.
However she soon decided to accept his assigment
and set out to investigate the area.
Victor's interest in this particluar location was based
on the Legend of the 3 Keys. The Legend claimed that
the possessor of 3 distinct keys, each crafted in the shape
of one of the 3 Gorgons, would be granted infinite power.
Victor already had one of the Gorgon Keys
and believed the second to be located within
the moutains he had sent Michelle to inspect.
After a few days,
Michelle returned with not only the map Victor had requested,
but a mysterious box she had located which she decided to keep
to herself for the time being.
Contained within the box was a mysterious key.
Meanwhile, Eve Donovan had discovered a common attribute
in Savannah Wilder. A lingering hatred for her father, Shane.
Despite her initial dislike towards Savannah, Eve soon teamed
up with her to hatch a plan for vengeance against the I.S.A. agent.
Eve's plan was based on a key she had stolen from her father.
She claimed it was evidence collected during a top secret case
and rumors suggested the key led to a mysterious fortune.
Eve and Savannah decided to locate the 3 Keys and use this
fortune to destroy Shane and all others who oppose them.
One night while discussing their plan at the Brady Pub,
Eve and Savannah became suspicious of Michelle Labelle
who was seated nearby with a mysterious box.
When Savannah recognized this box as an airloom of the Kiriakis Empire,
she decided to get a closer look.
Approaching Michelle, Savannah attempted to make idle conversation with her,
however Michelle saw through the attempt and brushed Savannah off.
This led Savannah to simply rip the box out of Michelle's hands and take off with it.
Later, Eve and Savannah discovered a mold in the shape of key on the front of the box.
Inside they found a key similar to the one Eve had stolen from Shane.
However neither key fit in the mold on the front of the box,
leaving both women perplexed as to it's symbolism.
The next day,
Michelle did some investigating regarding her discovery.
Though Savannah had stolen the box she found which contained a key,
Michelle had switched the original key with a replica.
Still having the original key in her possession, she brought it
to a jeweler named Jacob who explained how the key had a dark connection
but would not go into further detail.
Later Michelle went back to the Pub.
There she analyzed the mysterious key
while debating what to tell Victor regarding her discovery,
and how she had lost the box it was contained in.
When Savannah and Eve returned to the Pub,
they saw Michelle with yet another key.
Posing as a historian, Eve claimed the key was quite valuable
and offered Michelle an appraisle. Before Michelle could respond,
Eve pretended to accidentally drop the key underneath the table.
When she bent down to retreive it, she switched the key and handed
Michelle another replica.
Eve then took off with Savannah where they
continued to research the meaning of the 3 Keys.
Recalling the Kiriakis Family Crest engraved upon
the wooden box they stole from Michelle which contained the first key,
Savannah decided to pay a visit to the Kiriakis Mansion.
Back at the Pub, Michelle realized she had been tricked by Eve
and was left with yet another fake key.
Another key soon came into the picture when Michelle
encountered Brady Black who was sent a mysterious
key when he was living in Los Angeles.
Together the two of them decided to investigate the
meaning behind the keys.
Meanwhile,
Savannah had broken into the Kiriakis Mansion
and began to search the area for any information
pertaining to the 3 Keys. Recalling the location and combination
of her former employer's safe, Savannah was easily able
to gain access to Victor's personal information.
Amongst many other assets, Savannah discovered
a letter from one of the Kiriakis relatives which
explained the meaning of the 3 Gorgon Keys.
This letter revealed that many fake keys were created
and scattered across Salem. The letter went on to
describe how the three genuine Keys were each
crafted in the shape of one of the 3 Gorgons from Greek Mythology.
This new information led Savannah to the realization that
each of the keys she and Eve had discovered were fakes,
including the one stolen from Shane Donovan.
However she was now more than determined to locate each of the
genuine Gorgon Keys and discover the fortune before Victor
or anyone else.
Fortunately, the back of this letter provided a map
which clearly depicted the location of each Key and
the mysterious treasure they were to unlock.
After comparing notes,
Brady and Michelle decided to follow Savannah Wilder
believing she would lead them to the 3 Keys.
The two of them remained parked outside of her warehouse
until they eventually saw her car pull out of the driveway.
Savannah had decided to waste little time in obtaining the
first Gorgon key and proceeded to follow the directions as
described on the map which led her to the Graveyard.
With Brady and Michelle watching from a distance,
Savannah discovered the first Gorgon Key embedded within a tombstone.
After chiseling the Key out of it's secret location,
Savannah was only two keys away from victory.
Meanwhile
Victor had the only other Gorgon Key and was rapidly growing impatient.
Michelle had failed to serve him to his satisfaction
and when she told him of her desire to resign, he refused to allow it,
threatening her life if she did not present him with the map he had ordered
along with any other discovery she had made.
While Victor and Savannah held two of the Gorgon Keys,
the location of the third was virtually unknown by all involved
in the hunt, including Savannah whose map had been torn
leaving her without that information.
However the map would not have been able to help her
as the third Key had been stolen years ago.
It was aboard the Renee DuMonde where the third Key was revealed,
dangling around the neck of Carly Manning.
Meanwhile,
Eve's tolerance for Savannah, and vice-versa,
was causing a rift in their devious partnership.
After yet another fight between the two,
Eve decided to find the remaining keys on her own.
Her first instinct was to befriend Michelle Labelle
in hopes of using her knowledge on the keys to her advantange.
While searching for Michelle,
Eve came across the antique shop Michelle had visited before.
Entering the boutique,
she found herself alone with Jacob, the shop's drunken owner.
When Eve received only a warning from Jacob
about the danger the keys present,
Eve grew frustrated and annoyed,
leaving her to grab the old man by the collar of his shirt.
After losing his balance, Jacon tumbled backwards
and crashed into a bookshelf which landed on him,
causing his demise.
Eve fled the shop and ran back to Savannah in
desperate need of her help.
Savannah agreed to help her and the two women
once again joined forces to located the 2 remaining Keys.
During this time,
Michelle and Brady continued their own investigation
which left them with just as many warnings regarding the keys,
but little information as to their meaning or where to locate them.
Carly had forgotten each aspect of her past in Salem,
but over time, she recalled stealing the Key she wore
from Victor Kiriakis after he interfered in her relationship with Bo Brady.
When Carly began to put together the pieces of her past
she decided to visit Victor and demand all the answers she had been seeking.
That same night Savannah and Eve decided to pay a visit to the Kiriakis
Mansion as well. It was Savannah's belief that Victor would ultimately
lead them to the remaining Keys, even if it had to be done at gunpoint.
However on her way to the Mansion,
Savannah found herself followed by Michelle.
Pulling to an abrupt stop, Savannah climbed out of her vehicle
and physically assaulted Michelle, before continuing on her way.
Michelle was eventually found and rushed to the hospital
where she was left blinded as a result of the attack.
Savannah arrived at the mansion moments
after Carly Manning. When she encountered
the woman on Victor's doorstep, she simply
took the key from around her neck just as Victor answered the door.
From that point, a chase ensued.
Savannah raced back to her car with
two of the keys and the map in her possession.
Savannah knew that Victor would follow close behind
brining the third key with him, which he did.
Unknown to both of them, Victor's grandson, Brady
was also following close behind.
Brady had grown obssessed with discovering the fortune
the keys promised, and using the money to start a new life away from Salem.
Soon, all arrived at the outskrits of Salem.
Hidden within the mountainous terrain,
a massive cave was the supposed location of the mysterious fortune.
Eve and Savannah entered this cavern as Victor followed close behind.
Eventually, the two women reached an abyss filled with black water.
A sturdy rock formation in the center of the water was apparantly the
exact spot where the treasure was to be found.
However before Eve or Savannah could discover a method of reaching
the rock island, Victor appeared behind them and demanded his keys.
Savannah rapidly withdrew her gun,
as did Victor and the two faced each other,
both prepared to pull the trigger.
But before either one could do so,
the true legend behind the 3 Keys was revealed.
Ernesto Toscano, who was presumed dead after a shooting aboard
the Renee DuMonde, emerged upong the elevated rock formation.
Standing before the three, he explained how he had created the
entire legend as a ploy to lure Victor to his demise.
After forging a letter which he sent to his old nemisis,
Ernesto had distributed several Gorgon keys across Salem
along with many replicas for added realism.
He went on to explain how he knew Victor's greed would
undoubtedly ensure his interest in the phony legacy.
Although he had hoped to kill Victor's grandson Brady as well,
which was the purpose for sending him a replica of one of the keys,
Ernesto said that Victor death would suffice.
Although Eve and Savannah were not meant to be included in his wrath,
he said they had displayed just as much greed as Victor,
therefore they shall also fall victim to his vengeance.
Unknown to Ernesto, Brady Black was hidding within the cave
and overheard his entire plan. Brady was shocked to learn that
the man who raised his mother was composed of such pure evil.
Realizing that he would surely die along with the others,
Brady withdrew a gun he had stolen and aimed for Ernesto.
Ernesto announced to his victims that the cave had been
rigged with explosives. He showed them the remote device
which would detonate a massive explosion leaving no survivors.
However when Ernesto momentarily lost his footing due to a
tremor which envelopped the cave,
his remote was dropped into the water,
leaving him with only seconds to reach for his weapon.
However that was not enough time for him,
as Savannah, Victor and Eve all aimed their guns upon the same target.
Each fired a shot, causing Ernesto to plummet into the waters
where he was assumed to have perished.
Soon the cave began to crumble as a result of the gunfire,
causing all to evacuate as fast as they possibly could.
Once all were safe, they departed the area,
never to speak of the near fatal hoax ever again.
