         RESINS

Know your resins....

Resin manufacturers test all their resins stringently for mechanical properties and proper melting ranges for optimized processing.

Special Points

    • Check the manufacturers recommended melt temp.
    • Ensure that proper drying procedures are met.
    • Check for recommended regrind usage.

The most common overlooked errors are noted above. When the proper recommended melt temperature range is not met, shot to shot consistency cannot be met. This causes erratic fill times, screw recovery, shot density, improper gate seal off and also poor esthetics.

Improper drying of resins can cause unstable screw recovery, unstable fill time, poor gate seal off and poor esthetics. Always check manufacturers specifications for drying temperature including, proper moisture content. A wise investment for any company is the use of a moisture analyzer. This in itself will save you time and money. Do not trust that your dryer is functioning properly.

Using the proper recommended amount of regrind can also help a great deal in stabilizing a process. Do not randomly add regrind to a process and expect your process to remain stable. The mechanical properties as well as melt point change after being processed. Use a good blending system coupled to the machine or if mixing by hand be sure to move regrind at machine away as it is accumulated. If after reviewing and applying these points you still believe you are experiencing problems due to your resin fill in the form below and submit it to us for evaluation. Please be as specific as possible and include all processing information.
