Policies that the Government should put into practice:

Governments have the greatest power to reverse the trend towards global suicide. The changes can be made at different levels but in general they all reflect environmental awareness and active concern.

Local

  1. Set up a local mandatory recycling program.
  2. Purchase materials to reflect environmental concerns.
  3. Improve waste disposable methods of sewage and other municipal wastes.
  4. Limit expansion and building to non-environmental sensitive areas.
  5. Increase energy efficiency in all municipal buildings and public areas.

Provincial

  1. Encourage non-polluting industries
  2. Create environmental policies that encourage sustainable building of roads, houses, etc.
  3. Explore alternative energy sources such as solar, hydro and wind generators.
  4. Offer province-wide incentives and programs to promote energy efficiency and waste reduction.
  5. Reduce waste production and promote the " Reuse, Reduce and Recycle" concept.

National

  1. Make environmental protection a national priority. Reflect this in policies and actions.
  2. Direct foreign aid and trade to reflect environmental concerns.
  3. Cease military aid and any support for warring nations.
  4. Taxes should be placed on the wealthy individuals( and companies), fossil-fueled transportation, and any other items which lead to environmental degradation( the cost of gasoline should be doubled, if not tripled).
  5. Offer subsidies, loans and other incentives to efficiency programs and environmental ventures.
  6. Ban production, import or export of pesticides and hazardous wastes.
  7. Promote sustainable agriculture and fisheries.
