WARPRAYER #106 (NOV.2003): Frank Forever Lp
* Frank Forever comp. LP: The Frank Forever comp. LP is the 4th release of Burn Brandon Records and believe it or not: These records are completely free of charge!! Sounds weird, but the money for the pressing plant etc. is raised at shows where bands play without asking for any cash fucking punk! Anyway, this comp. LP is dedicated to Frank Vagnozzi, who played guitar in RECKLESS DEERHUNTERS and unfortunately passed away nearly 6 months ago. Well, I neither knew Frank in person(of course) nor was in touch with him via email, but he seemed to be a really nice and kind guy who did a lot for the punk scene in Florida, so he deserves that a record is dedicated to him. Okay, the bands on this sampler are: RECKLESS DEERHUNTERS (mid paced, driving, melodic hardcorepunk with catchy vocals; really good), ANOXIA (pleasant hardcore), JOHN MADDEN AND THE ELECTRIC CONDOMS (kinda strange, but great punk), LAWNMOWERS GONE AWRY(awesome, rudimentary t[h]rashpunk), DANCING LEPERS (cool shit that could have easily been on DEAD KENNEDYS Frankenchrist LP from 85) and D.F.C.(the best band on this compilation plays amazing, icecold, monotonous hardcorepunk in the direction of the legendary WARDS). Therere absolutely no stinkers on this comp. LP which is limited to just 600 copies and in addition to this, the liner notes from Bob Suren are totally heartfelt and honest! Bob just emailed me that all copies are finally gone, but maybe Tony from RECKLESS DEERHUNTERS mailto:reckless_deerhunters@lycos.com has a few left, so feel free to ask him if he has a spare copy for you. Man, this awe-inspiring record is for free except for the postage costs of course!! [Burn Brandon Records, available through Sound Idea Distribution
MAXIMUMROCKNROLL #246 (NOV. 2003): Reckless Deerhunters (13 song cd)
THE RECKLESS DEERHUNTERS play something akin to the early DESCENDENTS. The have some really fast joke songs that might as well say "I like food, food is good." The majority of the songs are up-tempo, poppy (but more punkish than pop-punk), and include some cheesy wanking guitar solos. Nothing new but it ain't all that bad. (13 song CD, no lyrics, reckless_deerhunters.tripod.com) (Pete)
MAXIMUMROCKNROLL #240 (MAY 2003): Reckless Deerhunters/Dancing Lepers - Split EP
This split EP was released by the Burn Brandon Collective in Florida. The financing for it (and for all Burn Brandon records and zines) came from benefit shows and donations, and it is free plus postage. The DANCING LEPERS are very endearing with lyrics and attitude reminiscent of Fresh Fruit-era DEAD KENNEDYS and a sound like your little brother practicing with his first punk band in the garage. The RECKLESS DEERHUNTERS have more of an old-school hardcore sound and can play better, but they don't excite me as much as the DANCING LEPERS. (DP)
Burn Brandon Issue 12 {Column - Puke On My Face (April 2003)}: Last Friday, March 28th, I went out to Tampa Suburbs to check out DFC, the Reckless Deerhunters, So Far No Good, Anoxia, and Automotive.......
I got lost on the way there, but the Reckless Deerhunters helped me forget my directional incompetence with a killer opening set. As usual, their combination of good looks, style, charm, and last but not least awesome songs made for a great set, they tore up 100%...........
ENDNOTES AND IMORTANT POINTS:
1. The Reckless Deerhunters are to be idolized.
Weekly Planet (March 19 -March 25, 2003): Reckless Deerhunters/Dancing Lepers Split 7-inch on Burn Brandon Records
The idea itself deserves five planets: Long-running punk 'zine Burn Brandon's principals get together and decide to put out a record. Then they hold benefit shows until they raise enough money to fund the release, and when they do, it's FREE. Beautiful. This third installment features three songs from venerable hardcore outfit Reckless Deerhunters, and two by comparatively new punks Dancing Lepers. The former plies a classically tight and blazing old school style with plenty of shout-along potential, while the latter pairs a more bluesy, vaguely X-reminiscent sound with some hyper political lyrics. Neither is blindingly original, but both sides provide an energetic, entertaining and better than average listen.
Three and a half planets.
Some German Dude (March 2003): DANCING LEPERS / RECKLESS DEERHUNTERS - split 7": DANCING LEPERS - http://www.dancinglepers.com - are doing some melodic punkrock. Nice, but nothing I would kill for! I like RECKLESS DEERHUNTERS -http://reckless_deerhunters.tripod.com - much more as they play fast, very powerful and memorable punkrock. Yesss!! Only 700 copies were pressed, so you should act right now!! Burn Brandon Records - no website or email adress mentioned - but (maybe still) available through Sound Idea Distribution.
TooSquare (June 2002): We went to check out the Reckless Deerhunters at Sound Idea recently. It was a great show, the crowd was a bit smaller than normal but it was still full of energy and the kids had a great time. I have to say I dont particularly like the beach balls flying all over the place, but everyone else seemed to enjoy it hahaha.
If you know of any other reviews, good, bad, or non descriptive, send them our way. We'll post them all.
