FIFTEENTH GENERATION

16384. NICHOLAS DE DUGLAS 1st LAIRD of MAINS95,82 was born before 1348 in Scotland.42 He died about 1406 in Mains of Lanarkshire.96 Nicholas De Douglas became the first Larid of Mains. The lands of Mains which were in Dumbartonshire, were aquired by his marriage to Janet Galbraith in September 1373.

The arms of Douglas of Mains were not registered with the Lord Lyon King of Arms until 1672, however it was known to have been used for many years before that date.

The Arms for the Cadet Branch of Mains are as follows;

Argent a Fesse Chequy Gules and of the first between three Mullets in Chief Azure and a man's Heart in base proper

Crest-An Oak Tree Proper

Motto Quae Serrata Secura He was married to JANET GALBRAITH in Sep 1373.82

All previous records were probably l in the wars of sucession. It is known that Douglases resided in the area for many many years before 1057.
