Mortal Background/History:
(IwtV) Born in 1953, Daniel Malloy became a journalist by the age of 20, interviewing people with lives that he found interesting. In 1972, he had his last interview, with the vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac. The book, Interview with the Vampire, was published in 1976, but under a pseudonym. Not much is known of his mortal family. (QotD) After the interview with Louis, he went in search of Lestat in New Orleans, but was found by Armand. Daniel instantly fell in love with the immortal, and vice versa. From then on, Daniel constantly ran from Armand, but was always found; Daniel was Armand's link to the late twentieth century. Soon, they became close companions and Daniel longed for immortality, but Armand refused him and only submitted to Daniel small quantities of his blood. Armand eventually marks Daniel as his lover, by giving him a taste of his immortal blood.
(QotD Excerpt): "You are mine beautiful boy" - Armand.
Immortal Background/History:
(QotD) Daniel survives through Akasha's slaughter of the immortals, and is Armand's companion for 10 years; living on the Night Island. Their relationship is a confused, but loving one. Each plays a game, struggling for dominance and tormenting the other, but always willing to surrender and drop the dominant position. Once, Daniel describes himself as being the 'devil's minion', but Armand contradicts him by saying that he is as much a slave to him.
Not much is heard of Daniel Malloy or his relationship with Armand in the other chronicles. (TVA) Sadly, it was said in Armand's novel, 1998, (TVA Excerpt): Daniel, though alive and wandering, though civil and gently, can no more stand my company than I can stand his. And, (TVA Excerpt): When gaining Daniel as a fledgling, I lost him as a mortal lover and gradually began to let him go.
(B&G) 1999-2000, Daniel lives with Marius, for Daniel is in need of looking after. He becomes enthralled with creating tiny worlds of buildings and trees; craft. Daniel creates them night in and night out, only stopping when he becomes thirsty or because of the deathsleep. He wanders by himself, often into trouble, getting lost or so thirsty that he is beyond the point where he can hunt on his own. Marius tends and cares for Daniel with a free will.
Why: Daniel was on the verge of death, due to chronic alcohol addiction. This caused Armand to make him into a vampire, but against his own better judgment. Armand could not face existence without him.
Novels: Author of Interview with the Vampire, had a part in Queen of the Damned and was mentioned in the novel The Vampire Armand.
