Whether stepping through the rath in the Alumni Garden at Blackstone University or arriving upon the Lonesome Pine trod, those paying a visit to the freehold of Caer Ondomorna first find themselves entering at the gate of a formal, walled garden where the air is mild and roses are in bloom regardless of the season. Birdsong trills above the low drone of insects, a melodious counterpoint to the fresh aroma of roses, green herbs and other ornamental plantings arrayed among winding pathways that beckon even the weariest feet to wander the elegant grounds. At the center of the garden, a stone fountain is set about with benches shaded by gnarled apple trees. In the autumn, their windfall rolls underfoot. In the spring their blossoms scent the breeze. From here one can discern a summerhouse or gazebo at one end of the garden. In the other directon, the paths lead to the low eaves and soaring ivory tower of Caer Ondomorna, its pinnacle graced by the crimson and silver banner of House Fiona Although existing within the everchanging environment of the Near Dreaming, the Rose Garden is thoroughly anchored to the Silver Path and to the freehold it serves to adorn. Kithain are cautioned not to climb over the pale limestone walls which mark its boundaries, however. Beyond lies the wild wood, and even this close to the Autumn World the Dreaming is strange and trackless, and those who stray from the stable regions might be hard pressed to find their way back. The byways and bowers of the spacious grounds allow considerable opportunity for privacy but it should be remembered that the Rose Garden comprises a part of the freehold of Countess Rosamund, and therefore any activities which transgress the Escheat should be scrupulously avoided. Lorloch Sytrisdattir, Castlethane of Ondomorna, takes such breaches of form very seriously, and although in her twilight years is still a troll, and can bring many ingenious varieties of unpleasantness to bear against troublemakers. |
