**Roy Dupuis wants to have kids!**
Roy Dupuis showed up at the press gallery during the Jutra ceremony, last Sunday, and he was in a good mood. Uncharacteristically, he didn't try to avoid reporters and he talked at length about his success with LFN, his house, and his desire to start a family!
We may not hear much about him in Québec, but Roy works very hard. "Sunday night, as late as possible, I fly away to Toronto. I get picked up on monday morning, around 4:30, and we start shooting. I go to sleep at 10:00 or 11:00 PM, and the next morning it starts again. 5 days a week !" This seemingly impossible schedule forced him to refuse a major movie role. "The movie also starred Dennis Hopper, and shooting was in Mexico. It was only a few days after we finished shooting LFN, and I was exhausted, and a little disgusted too ! It would have been bad for me, and bad for the movie. I'd love to do more movies, but it would have to be something amazing for me to accept right now."
Every weekend, Roy comes back to Québec - back to his country house he bought a few years ago. "I bought a land and a house, and I realized I need all that. It took 6 years for me to find that special place. Now I have it, it's one of my great passions, it's an inspiration. I do renovations, I take good care of it. I can see myself with kids, I want kids - that's part of the reason I bought the house - I want it to be a family house. It gives me "roots", and something clicked in my head when I realized that house was "my place". That land is my planet, I decide what I do with it. It gives me responsibilities, another way to look at trees, nature, and people. I want this house to belong to my kids after I die - so they can remember where I came from, where they came from. I want to give them the same feeling of "belonging" that I feel right now.", says Dupuis with passion.
Interestingly, Dupuis never mentions his girlfriend (actress Céline Bonnier) and the two of them were not seen together at the ceremony. The two actors met a few years ago while working on a CBS TV movie about the Dionne quintuplets.
"Everyone has their own way to get back in touch with their roots. I come from Abitibi - I built tree houses in the woods when I was a kid ! All that came back to me, thanks to the house. I love it. It's beautiful."
A documentary with his girlfriend
His role as Michael on La Femme Nikita might keep him very busy, but Dupuis still likes to make plans for the future. For example, he might work behind the camera and shoot a documentary, with the help of his girlfriend - "That would be a great experience", he says without explaining further.
As for LFN, Dupuis has signed a 5 year contract. "For the producers of the show, it's a way to feel secure. We sign for 5 years, and if the ratings are good, we shoot for 5 years. This is the 3rd year, and the way things are going, a 4th year is almost a sure thing. As for the 5th year, we'll see."
Roy misses working in French. "It's my mother tongue - I am more comfortable in French. The character I play on LFN is Belgian, and that gives him an international appeal. The dubbed version for french-speaking markets is done in France - I am the only actor who dubs his own character ! Good thing too, because it allowed me to change to a few things - the dialogues in French were sometimes ridiculous!
