looking for information on your favorite watch? where else better to look,? the internet right? well maybe , and then again
, maybe not. please keep these few things in mind when visiting "helpful", or "informational" websites.
1. first of all, anyone can start a website and claim to be an expert. - the internet has no ruling body that verifies
the information they give you. internet sites about space aliens can be just as valid as watch websites.
2. everyone has an agenda. we have an agenda. - its to sell watches and repair and restore the items we have a passion
for. however, many collector pages that claim to be "just for the collector" and not a business has their own reasons for
operating the site, and its not always what you think.
3.incorrect information , repeated enough, becomes the gospel. - because many people take one websites work and information
as being fact without checking it, they freely add it to their own website. done often enough people stop asking if its true.(
THE WIKIPEDIA DUTCH ROYAL FAMILY MESS COMES TO MIND)
4. groups , associations, and clubs always have bad apples. - while we would like to believe that most collector
groups are honest , some of the worst criminals we have delt with in the watch world have been "fine upstanding
members" of some of the most illustrious watch groups known.
WATCH PURISTS AND THE THEORY OF IMMACULATE REPAIR....
IN WATCH COLLECTING, THERE IS A SCHOOL OF THOUGHT THAT SAYS WATCHES SHOULD NEVER BE REPAIRED UNLESS THE PARTS USED ARE
"NEW OLD STOCK", I.E. IN THE ORIGINAL PACKAGES FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THESE "PURISTS" AS THEY LIKE TO BE CALLED , CLAIM THAT
SWITCHING PARTS FROM ONE WATCH TO ANOTHER, EVEN IF THEY WERE MASS PRODUCED AND ARE EXACTLY THE SAME MODEL, IS INHERENTLY WRONG
AND RUINS THE WATCH. THEREFORE, THIS WOULD MEAN THAT IF NEW OLD STOCK PARTS ARENT AVAILABLE, THE WATCH WOULD HAVE TO REMAIN
UNREPAIRED TO REMAIN ORIGINAL AND STILL HAVE VALUE. ----
OUR POSITION -
1. FIRST OF ALL, NEW OLD STOCK PARTS ARE ALMOST NON EXISTANT FOR MANY WATCHES. THIS WOULD MEAN IF YOUR WATCH BREAKS,
YOU HAVE A REALLY NEAT PAPERWEIGHT !!! (JUST WHAT YOU BOUGHT FOR , RIGHT?)
2. WE DONT CONDONE THE BREAKING DOWN OF RUNNING WATCHES IN GOOD CONDITION FOR PARTS. WE ARE HERE TO RESTORE WATCHES,
NOT DESTROY THEM. THE PARTS WE SALVAGE COME FROM WATCHES THAT ARE ALREADY TOO FAR GONE TO BE COMPLETELY RESTORED.
3. WE ONLY USE PARTS FROM EXACTLY THE SAME MODELS. EXAMPLE- WE DONT PUT HANDS FROM A SCOTTY ON A POCKET BEN. WE ALSO
WONT PUT A MOVEMENT FROM 1953 IN A WATCH MADE IN 1960.
4.WHERE DO YOU DRAW THE LINE? IS A NEW STAFF, HANDMADE BY A WATCHMAKER O.K., OR IS IT TECHNICALLY NOT ORIGINAL AND
THEREFORE RUINS THE WATCHES VALUE? IF A MAINSPRING IS SWISS MADE, BUT FITS AN AMERICAN MADE WATCH, IS IT CONSIDERED FLAWED?
IF YOU BUY A GROUP OF NEW OLD STOCK JEWELS IN A PACKAGE, CAN YOU BE 100% SURE THEY WERENT USED IN ANOTHER WATCH AT ONE
TIME?
5. MOST WATCHES MADE DURING THE TURN OF THE CENTURY WERE NOT SOLD COMPLETELY ASSEMBLED, BUT RATHER WERE SOLD AS MOVEMENTS,
DIALS, AND CASES, INDIVIDUALLY. THEREFORE, WHOS TO SAY WHAT IS "CORRECT" FOR THE MODEL? IS THAT HUNTING MOVEMENT IN
AN OPEN CASE REALLY A RECASE OR DID THE ORIGINAL PURCHASER LIKE THE SIDEWINDER LOOK? CAN ANYONE PROVE IT?
6.WE STRIVE TO KEEP OUR WATCHES AS ORIGINAL AS POSSIBLE. BUT WE BELIEVE THAT USING SAME MODEL PARTS IS ACCEPTABLE. IF YOU
BELIEVE OTHERWISE, PLEASE FEEL FREE NOT TO BUY FROM US.
