Maeve is forced to tell John what happened between her and
Jack. Although he-vows to say nothing to Jack or Mary, it's obvious that a volcano of
anger is smouldering within him. Jill walks into Ryan's and Delia is petrified. What if she decides to tell Frank? Jill Warns Delia After talking to Maeye and Frank about his marriage to Dee, Jill decides that it would hurt Frank too much to tell him the truth. Dee is relieved. Jill warns her, however, that if she, Jill, ever sees her with Roger again, a price will be paid!!!!! Nursing Home Abuses Mary goes to Gilcrest Manor to see Mrs. Mills and Hector. Hector is upset at the treatment he and the rest of the residents at the Manor have been receiving. So infuriated is he, that when Mary asks to tape his statement, he agrees. Mrs. Mills is terrified at the possibility of serious recriminations. As fate would have it, Mr. Sharp walks in just as Hector begins his statement. Sharp insists that Mary leave at once and then ominously promises Hector that he'll never give another interview again. Sharp then leaves the Manor and goes to the office of his mysterious benefactor: Nick Szabo!! Together they determine that Hector would be better off in a Home elsewhere. Szabo cautions Sharp to be careful and suggests he respond to all the residents' reasonable requests. Well, maybe they can send Hector away, but they can't send Mary Ryan away!! Mary, Frank, Bucky and Sam are very suspicious over the missing financial reports in the public file on Gilcrest Manor. They're also very concerned about the welfare of the Manor's residents. Dee Tries To Break Away Dee realizes that she must break up with Roger, but Roger is not quite so understanding. She insists they stop seeing each other, but Roger presses her to make it a temporary arrangement. Jill has asked to question some of the prospective jurors in private. She manages to get rid of a juror that she found particularly suspect. At the end of the morning session, she and Ass't D.A. Levine talk. His position is clear. Seneca is a strong willed man who had marital difficulties and seized the opportunity to pull the plug on Nell and all his problems. Jill prepares for a long, hard battle. The Trial Ass't D.A. Levine has questioned Bucky and Nell's sister, Mrs. Carter. He's gotten them both to admit to the stormy marriage between Nell and Seneca. Mrs. Carter has spoken of Dr. Harriet Hill, the woman Nell thought Seneca was having an affair with during the early stages of their marriage. D.A. Levine has attempted to make Seneca seem like a cold, unfeeling man involved in an affair. Jill has succeeded in pointing out that there had been a complete reconciliation between Nell and Seneca. She's also brought to light the-fact that had Seneca wished· to rid himself of Nell, he could have done it on the operating table and no one would have known. She also shows that he made every attempt to save her life and not take it. She further shows that, according to Harvard, Nell's condition was considered to be a state of death. Seneca just may have a chance. New Woman in Jack's Life? Jack was waiting for Frank in Frank's office, when a lovely pair of legs walked in and asked for the "Lion of Riverside". The owner of the lovely legs, Ms. Martha McKee, is a reporter and avid fan of Jack Fenelli. When Jack introduced himself, she gave him her phone number. He pocketed the number and that appeared to be that. Ms. McKee continuesto pursue Frank for an interview. When Jack learns of this, he calls her and makes a date. He has not told her of his engagement to Mary; nor that Mary is Frank's sister. What is Jack up to now? Hmmm?? Mary is hot on Nick Szabo's trail now! She's just learned that Nick's company loaned Gilcrest Manor $140,000.00!! Attempted Suicide When Mr. Sharp tells Bea that Hector is being sent away for health purposes, Bea determines to go talk to him. What she finds in Hector's room is quite a shock. He tried to kill himself! When everyone else finds out, there's quite a hub-bub and Bea is able to call Mary. Mary and Bob rush over to comfort her: Bea agrees to give Mary a statement after she sees Hector at the hospital. As they prepare to leave, Mr. Sharp sees them and insists that Bea stay. Bob suggests that Sharp be more concerned about the investigation of an attempted suicide at the Manor than detaining Bea against her will. When Sharp tells Nick what's been happening, Nick tells him to clear things up or else .... Roger's Pursuit Continues While Dee and Frank are talking about the possibility of their returning to their own home, a huge bouquet of flowers arrives. Of course they are from Roger, and Dee is white as a ghost. She tells Frank they are from an admirer in her Chinese cooking class and he innocently believes her. Roger seems determined to become a very big bee in Dee's very crowded bonnet. Roger is on the stand, and doing his best to discredit Seneca. He would have succeeded too, had it not been for Jill. Jill was able to get him to admit his past lying, stealing and blackmail. He certainly is not qualified to pass judgement on Seneca, as he's tried to. In addition to that, Seneca had refused to renew his contract. It is quite clear that Roger is a biased witness. But before Roger steps down, he manages to imply that he and Nell were at one time on the threshold of an affair. After the trial, he and Seneca fight, as Seneca says he's a liar. Fortunately, Jill is able to break them up. Nick Exposed Just as Mary and Sam are preparing for their explosive report on Gilcrest Manor and the involvement of Nick Szabo; Reenie is impressing Mrs. Carter with her sweetness, job at Channel R and devotion to her father. Reenie goes so far as to invite Mrs. Carter to watch the Channel R news when it comes on. To her shock and dismay, the feature story is about her father and the Gilcrest Manor. Reenie is almost overwhelmed with embarrassment. Dee is completely undone about Roger's insisting to see her and even threatening to tell Frank if she doesn't. Dee finally calls Father McShane and admits her affair with Roger· After the Father's shock subsides, he decides to talk with Roger. Try as he may to get Roger to back off, Roger is firm. He will not give up Dee, he will not stop his pursuit of her. He brazenly tells the Father: "I'm not going to give up Delia for anything . . . it's right for me and it's right for her . . ." Roger is probably becoming the most insistent lover Dee has ever had. He stumbles into Ryan's in a near drunken stupor and threatens Dee that he'll tell Johnny. He gives Dee a choice; either continue the affair, or suffer exposure. Dee goes to his apartment to once again try to convince him to leave her alone. She is so compelling with her pleas to Roger that she winds up in his bed, again. Jack's New Bedmate? Jack wanted Mary to stay home and Mary couldn't. So what did Jack do? He called another girl! Not only did he call another girl · . . but the other girl came over! Not only did the other girl come over, but she began to proposition Jack!! Mary is on her way home after having left some of her Gil-crest Manor files there by mistake. She won't take too kindly to seeing Martha McKee in her fiance's arms! Let's ho~e Martha is not in Jack's bed, too!! When Martha convinced Jack that his bed was more comfortable than the floor, he developed an incredible hunger (for food). He goes to the bakery, leaving Martha alone in the apartment. When Mary walks in . . . she's a little surprised to see a strange woman there. Martha is surprised too, when Mary tells her that she's engaged to Jack. When Jack gets back and Martha gracefully leaves, Mary is livid. But Jack manages to lie his way out of the situation and Mary falls for it. Dr. Harriet Hill is forced to admit on the stand that she is in love with Seneca. It might have had a very serious affect save for Dr. Hagen. The noted doctor says, under oath, that in his opinion, Nell was dead when her brain ceased to function; two weeks before Seneca disconnected the machines keeping Nell "alive"! * * * * * * * * * * * *
