Hotels in London

It is compulsory for Hotels to display their prices. Visitors should make sure exactly what is included in the price, eg breakfast, VAT, service, etc. Many Hotels have facilities for conferences, banquets, receptions, etc. Capacity, where given in numbers, is approximate at the upper end of the scale - check first. Small conference facilities means capacity for 20 people or less. Large conference facilities means the capacity is flexible according to the requirements.

B & B / Guest Houses

Staying at a bed and breakfast is a good way to encounter English family life. They are good value; breakfasts are traditional English, and your host can give you tips on sightseeing. Many are situated in streets around main line stations, but also scan notice boards outside newsagents and look in local papers or make a reservation through Bed-and-Breakfast (GB), PO Box 66, 94 Bell St, Henley-on-Thames, Oxon. (01491) 578803. There are also hundreds of small guest houses, many of which are to be found in Victoria, Earl's Court, Bayswater and Bloomsbury. It is much easier to find a room in winter than in summer. Beware of hotel touts who operate at the main stations, particularly Victoria; the accommodation they offer is usually inadequate and expensive.

Self-Catering

Self-catering apartments are an ideal alternative to hotels if you are staying in London for a longer period. An apartment gives you flexibility and privacy and the use of the kitchen means you save on restaurant bills. You can choose between holiday lets (short-term accommodation in a rented flat) and service apartments which offer a higher level of facilities (eg maid, reception, security). The best way of finding such accommodation is through an agency.

Holiday Flat Services Ltd
140 Cromwell Rd SW7. 0171-935 2412. Serviced apartments and privately-owned holiday lets. Short term or long-term let. All standards from economy to deluxe.

London Tourist Flats
17 St Mary's Rd SW19. 0181-947 0573. Studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom self-contained apartments in the Wimbledon area. Minimum two-week let.

Number One Apartments
1 Harrington Gdns SW7. 0171-370 4044. Studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom serviced apartments in Kensington. Daily maid service, porterage, 24-hr reception and security. Short or long-term let.

Another option is a self-catering holiday resort:
Lawrence Wharf

273-301 Rotherhithe St SE16. 0171-815 0815. London's first self-catering holiday resort situated in Docklands overlooking the Thames. 139 luxury one, two and three-bedroom apartments. Short or long-term let. Guests can share the facilities of the Scandic Crown International Hotel at a small charge.   Back to the Top
