Blue Mountains

The most famous rock formation in the Blue Mountains: the Three Sisters. There are a few different Aboriginal stories explaining how the Three Sisters were turned into stone...

This is how it usually looks like in the Blue Mountains...

... fascinating views of slopes, cliffs and rock formations.

Not difficult to imagine that a popular sport here is "abseiling", climbing down the cliffs!

This rock formation is called the Boar's Head.

Just when we went on a day trip to see this fascinating region (which Sabine fortunately had visited already in 1995 together with Carol and Reg), it looked like this: fog, fog, and fog again. Pretty unusual for this time of the year but unfortunate reality! Only in the afternoon it cleared up a bit so that at least something of the gorge was visible. Well, the bad weather left more time for boomerang throwing and didgeridoo playing, for which Gerhard turned out to be a natural supertalent! Furthermore, we returned to Sydney earlier, which left us time to explore the huge Sydney 2000 Olympics site with different stadiums and halls. The above pitures were taken by Sabine in 1995 to show you what we expected to see...

Hunter Valley

Cheers! This day tour with a small group was a really merry one, after tasting us through different red and white wines in 5 or 6 wineries - plus cheese and fudge! Yummy!

At Irongate Estate, a relatively new winery in Tuscany style. If you have a close look, you can see the roses which are planted in every wineyard as an early warning system for diseases. In the background, you can see the house of the owner of the estate, a milliardaire who made his dream come true. And his wines are really excellent!

Featherdale Wildlife Park

Koalas - in Noosa we also saw wild ones (pictures on the Noosa National Park page)!

Platypus - one of the most amazing creatures of Australian wildlife (the egg-laying mammal). Fortunately we didn't meet one in the wild because, you wouldn't believe it, a platypus has poisonous thorns, which can be dangerous for humans!

Kangaroo or rather wallaby with joey (baby) - in the outback we also saw wild ones! Unfortunately they were too quick for the cameras out there, so you've got to believe us...

Emu - in the outback we also saw wild ones (also they were too quick for our camera, however)! Their evil look makes you shiver...

Wombat - pretty nasty fellow when someone comes by his home. Didn't spot these fellows in the outback.

Tasmanian Devil - would not like to meet this one in a forest...

More wild animals on the Sydney, Outback and Noosa pages.
